OK... so I heard all the complaints from the BC crowd... they HATED Bible and were very glad to see him go. I didn't buy into their negativism over Bible because they were somewhat a biased source. And overall, I would say that Bible hasn't been atrocious, but he hasn't been great. But today was just plain unexplainable. The obvious overuse of our weak pass offense is astounding especially since we have some pretty damn good running backs. Throwing 54 times with Daniel Evans is the most unexplainable stat I've seen when you have Eugene and Brown in the backfield. My head is spinning and I'm hoping someone has an explanation... anyone? please?
11/17/2007 10:48:08 PM
run the damn ball when we're getting good yardage and inside the redzone.on a side note, bible is pretty consistent in his play calling:
11/17/2007 10:49:38 PM
bc complained that he ran it up the middle way too much.
11/17/2007 10:50:24 PM
I suppose we don't bitch when it works. But it was just so damned obvious today that Evans was struggling. That's when you have to rely on your other talent.
11/17/2007 10:52:10 PM
we tried and couldnt run on them. Our offensive line was getting mauled all night. Lathan played horribly. No way we could have run the ball well on them.also we had to play catchup being behind by two scores+ for 75% of the game (throw).[Edited on November 17, 2007 at 10:53 PM. Reason : s[]
11/17/2007 10:52:25 PM
And just why were we behind to begin with? hmm....
11/17/2007 10:53:34 PM
I understand throwing in the second half playing catchup (because we were playing pass all fucking first half too)... but how in your right mind does a mauled offensive line equal pass? If you have a mauled OL then nothing is going to work period. So why use a below talent quarterback when you could've used our capable backs?Because, obviously, having an overpressured, below talent quarterback is better than having overpressured extremely talented running backs.[Edited on November 17, 2007 at 10:56 PM. i didn't see anything in that game that suggested to me that running the ball would work terribly well. i'm not exactly sure where that notion came from... nevermind, i'm exactly sure where it came from; last week's success against unc. today, against wf, it wasn't working as well.
11/17/2007 10:57:52 PM
passing obviously worked out really well. We didn't give the run enough of a chance and when we got to the 2nd half, it was too late for running.[Edited on November 17, 2007 at 11:01 PM. Reason : .]
11/17/2007 11:01:16 PM
the thing about any thread like this is that the person in question (unless they're chuck amato and just a complete idiot) knows infinitely more about the current team's situation and about the game in general than everyone questioning him.
11/17/2007 11:05:20 PM
The run had started to work. Holes were opening up and Eugene was gaining decent yardage but we just seemed to abandon it.
11/17/2007 11:05:35 PM
We didn't try to run enough. You can't conclude that we couldn't have run based on the few attempts we had. They were stout in the first few series, but run defenses always loosen up in the second half. We weren't so far behind that we had to abandon the run as early as we did.Even a 3 yard run is better than an incompletion if it means less yards on 3rd down. Furthermore, a steady diet of runs loosens up the defense and keeps them honest. Even if it doesn't go well at first, committing to the run is an investment that has payoff late in the game.Instead, we got behind the sticks way too much. Wake's smart secondary just had to sit back and wait for our fucking idiot QB to throw some gifts to them. Only idiots couldn't see that putting the game in Evan's brain and arm would fail.[Edited on November 17, 2007 at 11:12 PM. Reason : as]
11/17/2007 11:10:24 PM
there were SEVEN rush attempts in the first half...SEVEN!and i dont htink there was a single one on 1rst down, of course the running game isnt fucking working on 2nd or 3rd and long goddamnit
11/17/2007 11:12:03 PM
And in the end, the passing game turned out to be worse than the running game. People just fool themselves into believing that an occasional nice completion makes up for punts, picks, and fumbles. People don't know how to assess success in the run game compared to the passing game.[Edited on November 17, 2007 at 11:18 PM. Reason : ;]
11/17/2007 11:15:37 PM
When you're playing from 100 points down its hard to do anything you idiots. Maybe if our D had gotten their cleats on before halftime we could have thrown a little less.
11/17/2007 11:49:00 PM
And if we hadn't been passing for incompletions and then punting or passing in our redzone for interceptions, then just maybe we wouldn't have been so far behind. Just a thought.
11/17/2007 11:50:39 PM
You mean if we hadn't given up 900 yards off offense in the first quarter we could have had a more balanced attack on offense...I see.
11/17/2007 11:53:47 PM
we only gave up 125yds in the first quarter.
11/17/2007 11:56:09 PM
our run game wasn't working, which is part of the reason we got into a big hole, which is the reason we had to start throwing the ball more. i mean when you're down 21-3, u kinda have to open it up a little bit.
11/17/2007 11:56:17 PM
11/17/2007 11:57:01 PM
I noticed that we were behind from the beginning, and when we did run we didn't get shit out of it. We ran the ball on those 2 scoring drives, although not well, but after that we had no other option. The plays you should bitch about are the drops, the penalties, the horrible coverage by Gray on that TD that was the backbreaker, and the rest of the penalties, to go along with the shit D in the fist half. Offensive play calling is about #10 on the list of shit we did wrong today.I mean when we did get into running situations on 2nd and 5 or so, what did we do? Penalty. Nice.
11/18/2007 12:15:23 AM
yup. looked like that chuck amato discipline out there today.
11/18/2007 12:17:35 AM
Agreed
11/18/2007 12:21:32 AM
7 rushes in the first half--unacceptable.
11/18/2007 1:07:20 AM
Our receivers did a poor job making the plays they had made in our wins as well. The interception in the endzone off of the mistimed jump by Dunlap, for example.Of course, this is 3 poor games in a row by Evans, and I was a bit surprised Beck didn't get another look.
11/18/2007 2:14:06 AM
i think he deserves one, although everyone who reads sports talk knows that. i'll keep my beck propaganda in check.
11/18/2007 2:16:44 AM
not entirely sure what this thread is about... but GO VOLS!
11/18/2007 3:01:00 AM

11/18/2007 3:03:16 AM
hahaha, yup hhahah
11/18/2007 3:04:57 AM
I think Bible has been great this year. He far exceeded my expectations after hearing all the BC fans bitch about him.
11/18/2007 11:14:36 AM
^ 100 %, I will take him over trestman anyday
11/18/2007 1:40:32 PM
i also have no problems w/ bible.
11/18/2007 1:41:03 PM
this needs to be fucking bttt'd...good idea, dana, lets throw the hell out of the ball until we're down by 17... then we can't even go to the running game at all.fucking moron.
11/24/2007 1:10:36 PM
seriously, this is some absolutely abysmal offensive play calling
11/24/2007 1:24:10 PM
is mazzne back on the sidelines?
11/24/2007 1:32:35 PM
3 yard slant and swing routes are certainly the best approach when you're down 24 with 80 yards to go with 20 seconds on the clock in the first half.
11/24/2007 1:33:37 PM
hey fucktardswhen you inherit qb's that completely suck ass there isnt much you can do. Whats he supposed to do? have the new jay davis throw down the field and get picked off over and over.our shitty qb's have pretty much limited our offensive playcalling
11/24/2007 1:48:15 PM
perhaps
11/24/2007 1:49:00 PM
yea i am of that same opinion, the personnel we currently have simply dont allow for more advanced play calling
11/24/2007 1:49:15 PM
try running lately? 1Q should've been about the run... but what did we have? A pick in the redzone.
11/24/2007 3:43:46 PM
we won four in a row with a team that, quite frankly, looked like they were playing with enough talent not to shit themselvesi think we can't really talk shit about our staff yet. let's get some players for them to work with. if anything, we should be thankful we aren't 1-11and also, those freshmen and other young players look pretty well developed for their age. I think we're gonna be just fine. Nate Irving, Thomas Barnes, DeAndre Morgan (well, not today, but overall), Javon Walker, Darell Davis, Jake Vermiglio, Owen Spencer, Markus Kuhn, etc--the coaches will get the job done. fwiw, Jay Smith has been getting rave reviews on the practice squad.[Edited on November 24, 2007 at 3:54 PM. this THREAD... sir... is "unexplainable"... or do i mean "inexplicable" you dumbassbible is a great coordinator, he does a great job so far... I hope it continues onto next season with more talent
11/24/2007 11:31:39 PM
I suppose a slant or a swing on 3rd and 10 is a great idea.
11/25/2007 10:51:08 AM
It resulted in less points for the other team than pick 6.You're pretty retarded Oeuvre.
11/25/2007 12:32:12 PM
That's certainly the way to play football. Ok, we'll go to forego our 3rd down conversion chance with no chance to score anything as opposed to a possible pick 6.I really hope you never coach anything because that is the most retarded thing I've ever heard.[Edited on November 25, 2007 at 1:58 PM. Bible and Archer are both horrible, IMO. I say Chuck'em.I haven't heard of one person that likes Bible. His play calling rarely makes any sense.I've heard people say they like Archer, but I think he's an idiot. Second to last place defense last year, a shitty "bend but don't break defensive scheme" that breaks, constantly, and going to a 3-4 defense on long 3rd downs, that never works. The reason we get long 3rd downs is because the 4 man front can pressure the QB, and forces a bad pass/sack/etc. The 3 man rush allows the QB time to find a receiver covered by our ~ secondary. But that's another thread.
