pics or it didn't happenand damn$500???
11/15/2007 1:17:57 PM
labs are not worth 500maybe 200-300 and i am sure this is not some champion blood/stud service herethe more popular the dog the least it will cost in theory
11/15/2007 1:33:52 PM
AKC bumps the price
11/15/2007 1:37:33 PM
no sir it doesn'tthese dogs come a dime a dozen
11/15/2007 1:38:29 PM
^^ no, it really doesn't...i'm not saying you won't get $500, because there are a lot of stupid people in the world, but you sure won't get $500 off tdub, and you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone anywhere else who'll pay that pricei won't even begin to rant about how unhealthy labs are as a whole (akc or not, labs have been inbred for centuries, commence getting your panties in a wad), and how stupid it is to buy a dog when there are dozens put down every week within 100 miles that are usually healthier and can be just as good family/hunting dogs...oh, wait...i guess i WILL begin ranting...proceed[Edited on November 15, 2007 at 1:41 PM. they age poorly too - i worked in a vet clinic, animal shelter, and companion research lab, so i have plenty of experience with seeing many breeds of dogs at different stages of life.
11/15/2007 1:42:31 PM
^ agreed...i worked for a vet as a tech for 6 years
11/15/2007 1:45:47 PM
that AKC bit was being sarcastic.
11/15/2007 1:47:02 PM
hmm, interesting, I've always thought lab is one of the healthier breed out there. Apprarently not, good to know.
11/15/2007 2:21:07 PM
my family's lab was the sweetest greatest best trained (bird hunting dog) loyalest die for you kinda dog ever. she just died at 14 and the last couple years were really bad on her hips. she quit going up and down stairs and hobbled around a lot. so on one hand Labs obviously can be great dogs, but on the other, they and most other purebred big dogs are over bred and full of problems i doubt i'll ever get a pure breed again. And if i did itd be from a rescue, not a breeder. $500 is high, but judging by how many boutique and purebred dogs i see at the dog parks, i'm sure they'll go.

I'd gladly pay a grand for the right puppy, BUT I would not pay more than the animal shelter's adoption fee unless there were generations of hip and elbow certification, working titles, and tests for breed specific health problems. At ~$3k a hip to replace them, paying more for a pup is a wise investment IF it reduces your chances of health problems. Or just get an adult from the shelter so you don't have the uncertainty.

lol thought these were puppies made in a labhad to investigate

haha good luckEstimated number of animals euthanized by U.S. animal shelters each year because homes are not available: 4 to 6 million because they are not wanted by anyone, anywhere. Although the number of animals euthanized varies by geographic region, approximately 30-60% of all animals brought into animal shelters are euthanized nationwide. This amounts to 13,698.63 pets killed each day, 570.776 each hour, or 9.51 every minute of every day...

we paid 700 for our lab and he is well worth it.... i would give 500 for a lab depending on his parents
11/15/2007 10:45:45 PM
I might start breeding dogs. I don't really like dogs, but I do like puppies and the money would be good.
11/15/2007 11:25:39 PM
Paid $400 for mine, that was with a father who has placed at the great outdoor games and is a certified master hunter. OFA certification 2 generations on one side, 3 on the other. Average cost for wormed, pedigreed lab puppy is going to run from 200-700. Labs are great dogs to have, just don't get a puppy because you think it'll make a cute christmas present, dogs are a 10-20 year commitment.[Edited on November 16, 2007 at 4:03 AM. Reason : adf]

dog breeding is some serious business
11/16/2007 10:19:20 AM
dog breeding is hard work and usually doesn't pay off unless you have been in the game for years, and have a high capacity. stud fees are were the money is at. selling puppies, at least in the beginning is the worst move. if you want to breed, just spend good money on a stud dog to start out.

i now have pictures, email me for them BBBailey @ ncsu.eduthe dam's grandfather is a master hunter, the sire was a field trials dog, but i cant remember his ancestors, but i can find out-burke

Shack, breeding pups is a pain in the ass, and the profit margin isnt that great considering the investment prior to payoff, but it is so cool to watch them develop so fast and grow personalities. i think it is well worth it, if you are willing to put in the time. it amazing how much affection you can have for something that just wiggles, whines, and shits. burke

Update- the yellow male is sold.
11/19/2007 2:04:26 PM
how much you sale him for?
11/19/2007 2:11:18 PM
oh my god, sell does not mean sale. this pisses me off so much.Sell is a verb, sale is a noun.RAWR!
11/19/2007 2:16:46 PM
really who cares?
11/19/2007 2:18:21 PM
people who don't like to see the English language used incorrectly for no good reason.
11/19/2007 3:49:09 PM
I thought dogs were free.
11/19/2007 3:51:20 PM
I would not pay $500 for a lab. Maybe one of those shitckicker dogs that girls like. On any given day you can go to the pound and there will be dozens of labs of all ages there in need of homes. Not only is it wrong to pay for a dog you can adopt its clearly fucking stupid.
