I've had mixed results using car charges for ipods on my iphone... The one that worked at all usually drains the battery down to 10% or so before charging it.. another device I had was an FM transmitter/charger and well, it got fried the first time I plugged it into the iphone. So, unfortunately it isn't quite as simple as "if it fits, it should work"

if it fits, it WILL work.that's how the ipod connector was designed.4th gens have the dock connector, so do the iphones. therefore, it will work.
