scare me. I never want to be confined like that. I rather go to Alaska and try to become a crab fisherman

having an office job is fine

wanting to do your office job well is fine

it's the people who go in on saturday and sunday even when they're not asked that creep me out

i know that some people have to go in on a saturday here or there to keep in good graces and not get canned

but these folks break their backs for companies that don't care about them

maybe i'm not creeped out so much as i'm sad

I'm convinced that my coworkers hate their wives and kids. They go to the office and spend 70 hours a week there to get away

It's creepy because the start associating the office as home. I don't even know what they consider their homes. Receptacles for their family and stuff I guess. There are guys here who just sit in the office doing nothing. They could go home, but instead they stay until 7pm or later, sleeping at their desk or reading comic books. It's sad, but it's also creepy.

Doesn't seem like the thread creator knows exactly what he is talking about.

it's creepy to me because it seems almost inhuman

they're like bees or ants, content to do what they're told as much as possible

I don't go in on weekends, but I do a lot of afterhours work from home on nights and weekends that I don't get paid/recognized for doing. It would be pretty easy for me to say "hey, I don't get paid a lot, they don't ask me to work at home, I'm not getting the recognition" but I have pride in the work I do and I want it to be done as well as possible. I'm pretty well aware that the company as a whole doesn't "care" about me, but I try to work in the same way that I would want an employee to work for me somewhere down the line. You can call it sad, I'll call it an honest day's work.

^ There's plenty to be said for taking pride in the work you do. With that said, there are plenty of people who inexplicably become invested in doing things in the office that have nothing to do with the quality of what they've been asked to accomplish/produce. It's the people who work for the sake of working that I don't understand.

I had a lot of downtime at my office job and I usually used it to play Mario Kart DS when I didn't have any real work to do
