http://www.libertydollar.org/ld/ronpauldollarinstead of using that run of the mill US currency, why not exchange it for something that will be worth something after the world's economy collapses or after that nuclear war. Remember, the value is always negotiable. What's funny is that I've heard of businesses accepting these.

why did you say gold standard, but then post a silver coin???? I'm so confused
11/14/2007 4:35:36 PM
when most people talk of gold standard (ron paul), they're not talking about gold per se, just something with real value, instead of paper that has worth b/c the gov says it does.
11/14/2007 4:38:25 PM
Is there even enough silver and gold to do this?

I'm actually a big fan of Fiat money Ron Paul is an idiot anyway...
11/14/2007 4:49:14 PM
I have my points where I take issue with Ron Paul.Eliminate the IRS, eliminate the national deficit, back the money to some extent, and whatnotAll these things take money, a LOT of money. More than what we spend on the war in a year or two. No matter how I turn it, I don't see how he can do everything he says he wants to do. In my book, this means that he won't do all of those things. How will he pick and choose? That's what I want to know.

Shouldnt that gold coin price be closer to $800? I KNOW it's not up around 1000.
11/15/2007 2:11:59 AM
you're actually completely correct. Each of the Ron Paul coins at least have a material value slightly less than what's printed. The silver 20$ one is worth 16 some US dollars. And you're actually right on for the gold one.

switching to the gold standard would bork the economy. Using a finite resource to determine the value of things, when the population of people using those things is growing exponentially will cause too much stress on economic systems. It will open up new avenues of exploitation by speculators, that will hurt more people than it would help.In a globalized economy is makes much more sense to use a "floating" system. Not to mention the effect that us switching would have on other nations, from many different angles.
11/15/2007 2:23:09 AM
But isn't it silly to use currency whose value comes only from people's faith in its value? Shouldn't a currency be backed by some rare, precious resource? As it stands the world has to take the US at its word when it says that one dollar = one dollar.
11/15/2007 2:32:06 AM
^^ I never thought the world should switch. I would, however, be quite happy if just me and all the local economy that I live in switched to a gold backed currency. Because then we'd all be very rich when that faith based money fails.
11/15/2007 2:34:13 AM
I guess that's why we put God on our money. We have to have faith that he won't screw us over and make our money worthless. Good strategy...
11/15/2007 2:39:57 AM
^^ I'm not saying they should switch either. But us switching would have a direct effect on lots of other countries. What happens if some poor African nation finds huge gold reserves? Our money instantly gets worth less. What happens if a group of Caribbean countries decides to pool their gold and sell it to Americans? Our money instantly becomes worth less. The whole ideology that came from using gold centuries ago was based on flawed understanding of chemistry and physics that put value on metals. There was a time when aluminum was the most valuable metal on the planet (because it HAD to be refined, it didn't exist naturally in a form most people would recognized as aluminum).^^^ The current system is not based on faith, it's based on supply/demand.[Edited on November 15, 2007 at 2:42 AM. 11/15/2007 2:42:06 AM
^ It's also based on confidence in the fact that we'll pay back our debt some day. AKA - faith (which is currently poor because we borrow much more than we should).[Edited on November 15, 2007 at 2:45 AM. Reason : ]
11/15/2007 2:44:40 AM
11/15/2007 3:24:40 AM
^^ Huh? The debt system is like any other debt system, it's not based on faith either. Are you thinking of the deficit? that's not faith either.^ We can't make gold (not yet anyway), but we can find more gold, which is practically the same thing. Or others can find more gold. If you think it's bad now that foreign nations own 25% of the debt, switching to a gold standard would make things MUCH worse.
11/15/2007 3:28:56 AM
America I've given you Ron and now I'm Paul. America two dollars and twenty-seven cents in gold January 17, 1956. I can't stand my own Ron Paul. America when will we end the Ron Paul war? Go fuck yourself with your Ron Paul I don't feel Ron don't Paul me. I won't write my Ron Paul till I'm in my Ron Paul mind. America when will you be Ron Paul? When will you Ron Paul your clothes? When will you look at Ron Paul through the grave? When will you be worthy of your Ron Paul Trotskyites? America why are your libraries full of Ron Paul? America when will you send your Ron Paul to India?
