Do they check your driving record? or just make a copy of your license? (this being in another state)

I hate rental cars. Been driving a Chevy Corsica for the last few days while my car is in the shop. No center armrest, no cruise control. Be glad when I can get in my car again tomorrow a.m.

You'd better really be at least 25 years old. Most agencies have a non-negotiable minimum age requirement of 25.

no, they don't check your record.

^actually, a lot of companies will rent to you if you're under 25. they charge you extra though and sometimes have other special requirements.

^^where the hell are you living that you got a corsica for a rental? they quit making them in 1996.

yeah i heard that if you have a fender bender, no matter who's at fault, some rental companies make you pay your deductible right there on the spot to them, and it is mandatory, unless you buy their insurance. so if you have a 0 deductible then you might be ok without purchasing their insurance, but if you have a 500 deductible, you might want to consider that.

Ok, so it was a Chevy Cobalt. It was still a car I wouldn't want to own.

And my USAA policy covers me on every car I drive, at the levels of the policy attached to the car.

Diner's Club is a good option, too.

In fact, you can save up to $16 per day for rental car collision damage insurance. Included in your Card is a comprehensive package of no-charge travel insurance with high coverage."
