the last few mornings when i go to start my car it almost impossible to get it into gear, except reverse. i have to push very very hard to get it in, but it is not grinding or anything. then when i get back from class later i dont have much trouble at all, except it is still just a little hard to get into 1st. any thoughts?

The weak link in those cars has always been the tranny. I have been offered a couple of good running 900s for free over the past five or six years that both needed a tranny. Used transmissions are hella expensive since there are so many cars needing them and so few available. That said, do the normal stuff. Swap the transmission fluid with a good fluid. Check the adjustment of the clutch cable. Take it to Swedish Imports if you want a good diagnostic at a decent rate, but make sure you do something soon. Transmission problems are nothing to slack on.

which year? if it's a new-gen 900 (93-97) then it may be the clutch release bearing

It's an OG 900. I remember him posting a previous thread asking about service for it.

i found out the problem would be the clutch cable, if i had one, but my model runs on hydraulics, and i think i need a new master cylinder. is the is Swedish Imports my best option you think?

Oh weird. I just assumed the OG900 had a cable since the NG900 didn't get a hydraulic clutch until 1998. Call Swedish and ask them how much the master cylinder will run.
