With the drought how do you think that is going to affect the ability of the ski resorts to make snow? In NC and VA we depend very much on man made snow and as a result of the drought I was wondering how this would affect the initial operation before we received natural snow? I was at wintergreen two weeks ago and the restraunt was having to ask if we would like our glasses field with water as a result of the drought so dosn't look very good for us skiers in my opinion.Hopefully someone will tell me why I am wrong about this.

I do not know abou tthis, but I do know if you were make the nd in your name an m, it would make homo... kind of like this thread.

Don't worry, despite the drought, east coast skiing will still completely suck ass.
11/6/2007 2:46:03 PM
^^Thats a good one. You must be one of those fat fucks that has never been skiing or done anything remotely close to exercise in your life, hence your answer of "I do not know abou tthis". I do know that if you did go skiing thought you would be the guy with jeans a sweatshirt and scotch guard on but you wouldn't know about that either.[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 2:47 PM. 11/6/2007 2:49:14 PM
^Lots of skiing in Africa actually...Your probably the same person that says Africa is all black guys as well. http://www.afriski.co.za/http://afriski.com/http://www.webpro.co.za/clients/ski/sani.htmhttp://snow.co.za/

man, my comment just went way over your head didn't it?
11/6/2007 3:08:21 PM
I just got my snowshoe email today saying snowmaking had begun.
11/6/2007 3:11:13 PM
East Coast skiing = but I can't talk, i won't even get to go skiing this season. First season in 16 years that i'll miss
11/6/2007 3:16:34 PM
h^^^ no you just assumed that people in Africa didn't ski because you were to ignorant to realize they have mountains with snow there.Your prize however is a carmen sandiego prize pack!![Edited on November 6, 2007 at 3:19 PM. Reason : blah]
11/6/2007 3:19:12 PM
I know Africa has snow covered mountains. You assume though that just because someone made a comment about your damn thread they must not ski, and since they don't ski they must be fat....way to go buddy. So I'm going to assume that since you ski and made this thread, you're an arrogant rich ass whose mommy and daddy pay for everything and you are to lazy to take 5 seconds to google some info yourself.[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 3:26 PM. ^ come on now you didn't know Africa had mountains with snow.
11/6/2007 3:28:29 PM
I doubt the drought affects too much snowmaking. The cities/counties/states aren't going to miss out on all the revenue brought in from ski season and I'm sure will relax regulations.Regardless, I can't wait until Thxgiving weekend! Heavenly time again.. ski all day and gamble/drink all night.[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 3:31 PM. Reason : i assume all of the ski resorts are in S. Africa?]
11/6/2007 3:29:00 PM
Yes I did, had to tutor some kid last semester and he did a paper on tourism in Africa so ha!
11/6/2007 3:29:23 PM
^^ those were my thougths as well. I just didn't know even if they took the restrictions out 100% if they would have enough water to supply the demand from the equipment. We stayed at harveys out in Tahoe a few years back and had a great time.
11/6/2007 3:31:13 PM
I believe most local ski resorts have their own private man-made lakes from which to draw water from, so I doubt water restrictions are really an issue.

they all either have their own reservoirs, wells, or streams/creeks to draw from.
11/6/2007 11:20:07 PM

11/6/2007 11:22:26 PM

how long does it take the average laymen to become proficient at skiing?[Edited on November 12, 2007 at 11:55 PM. Reason : i would like to know]
11/12/2007 11:54:54 PM
Obviously depends on how often you go, your athleticism and coordination, how gutsy you are (some people are just naturally too tentative, or on the flip side never improve b/c they are out of control), not to mention your definition of "proficient".
11/13/2007 1:45:22 AM
so when will most slopes be open in nc?
11/13/2007 2:37:01 AM
I think i went to sugar when they first opened around thanksgiving last year. It sucked but I look forward to around this time every year.Lol, sugars already open. http://skisugar.com/conditions/[Edited on November 13, 2007 at 2:11 PM. Reason : .]

It depends, if you're generally good at self-teaching in other things, you can self-teach skiing as well. I consider myself an advanced skier and didn't take a lesson in the 16 years i've been skiing until last season, because no matter how hard i tried, I just couldn't ski moguls elegantly. cdubya and I took the "bump busters" course at Copper mountain (taught by the former coach of the U.S. mogul ski team) and I made more improvement in 8 hours than I did in years of trying to get good at the bumps. So, yeah I think you can self teach to a point, but once you're at the level of really fine-tuning your skills, you gain a lot by instruction. Also, if you're skiing with people who are better than you, you can learn a lot by watching them.
