I picked up the Acer X222Wbd at newegg when they had it.I love it, and I couldn't find a better deal at $279 with free shipping.Crystalbrite ftw.[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 12:59 PM. Reason : lol]

^Is that the glossy like screen?
11/6/2007 12:59:45 PM
yeahdell ultrabright knockoffwith glossy piano black bezel.my monitor is sex.
11/6/2007 1:00:36 PM
an apostrophe? really?
11/6/2007 1:10:19 PM
11/6/2007 1:17:20 PM
What's the advantage to a glossy screen?
11/6/2007 1:18:14 PM
brighter and more crispas long as you can block glare.
11/6/2007 1:19:10 PM
See that Samsung, I can't find a better deal that that right now. I can't find your acer on newegg.comAnd the Samsung is 269.99
11/6/2007 1:20:56 PM
yeahmy buddy has the samsung.it's nice, but mine looks better thanks to the crystalbrite.I dont think samsung offers a gloss screen
11/6/2007 1:28:35 PM
No it doesn'tI've heard bad things about a glossy screen. Also the samsung can get a 3000:1 contrast ratio.
11/6/2007 1:35:59 PM
hahado you know anything about contrast ratio? how it's measured?[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 1:40 PM. Reason : if you keep your room semi-dark, gloss is a winner.]
11/6/2007 1:39:42 PM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001096it's $269 at the egg, better deal than at dell
11/6/2007 1:42:30 PM
Yeah I saw it there, once you factor in the shipping new egg chargers(dell has free shipping). They are basically the same.
11/6/2007 1:46:53 PM
^^^No, that's why this thread was created. So people could give me a better idea.I'[m just trying to find the best monitor for the money
11/6/2007 1:48:28 PM
brightness and a glossy screen are the biggest factor. (along with viewing angle.)anything less than 12ms is not going to ghostcontrast is basically a moot pointif you have a bright ass room, go non-gloss.[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 1:51 PM. Reason : contrast is measured differently across manufacturers. do a little research on LCD contrast.]
11/6/2007 1:50:25 PM
What kind of Viewing angle does your ACER have?
11/6/2007 2:02:53 PM
i for one cannot stand glossy screens, while they look nice, there's almost never a time in which i don't see glare unless i have all the lights off in the room, but i haven't seen the Acer Crystalbrite screens before[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 2:05 PM. Reason : .]
11/6/2007 2:04:30 PM
160 degreesand quite a few of the multimedia laptops have gloss screens. check one out to get an idea of glare.[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 2:44 PM. Reason : kk]
11/6/2007 2:43:57 PM
My girlfriend's does, I get a bit of glare. I'll decide tonight. Probably go with the dell, acer, or samsung.
11/6/2007 2:48:58 PM
I despise the fact that my laptop, which is a convertible tablet model, has a glossy screen. GLARE FROM HELL when trying to use it as a tablet in a room with fluorescent overhead lighting. Like just about everywhere on campus. But yeah...glossy screens look very nice IF you're not near any glare-prone light sources or windows. I'd personally rather have a matte screen and not have to worry so much, but that's just me.
11/6/2007 2:56:36 PM
for my laptop ill stick with non-gloss.for my dimly lit bedroom, SUPER SHINE.and yeah, gloss on a laptop is a pretty bad idea, unless the point is to push it as a desktop replacement.

anyone want to recommend a good 24" LCDi want to go that big for the resolution (1920*1200)

I have that Dell you are thinking about. It's been about a year and I've had no problems; it's the best monitor I've ever had. I like it because out of all the monitors I looked at, it had the sturdiest feeling in my opinion with regards to the base. The black-silver color scheme also matched my system well.[Edited on November 7, 2007 at 1:19 AM. Reason : -]

picked up a 19" WS from LG at best buy a little while back and i love this thing. only disappointment really is that i can't mount it as portrait. Leopard will handle the rotation but the stand doesn't support it.3000:1, 2ms, and i think 300 on brightness? FTWcompared to my 15.4" WS mb pro, this thing is blinding
11/7/2007 2:36:24 AM
11/7/2007 4:10:16 AM
I think I'm gonna go with the Samsung.
11/7/2007 6:40:53 AM
^^ besides the brightness, what is the difference between these two and why did you go for the more expensive versioncheap:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014158expensive:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014124im not sure if the cheap one does HDCP and the extra inputs arent therei guess they are difference panels

monitor's what?
11/14/2007 1:56:03 PM
I'm thinking of getting my dad a new monitor for Christmas, and I have no idea where to start... He just got a new dell processor and still has the crappy little box monitor. He only uses his home computer for basic things - itunes, random searching, checking emails, and playing solitaire. I'm thinking somewhere in the 19" to 22" range, flat screen. Any ideas? (forgive me, i'm very computer un-savvy)
11/15/2007 1:47:28 PM
I got an Acer AL2216WBD (link in jrb's post above). Very nice upgrade from my 3 year old Sceptre 19" LCD. I'll probably ditch the Sceptre and get a 2nd AL2216WBD after Christmas if the price comes down. Rebate came back in about 6 weeks. -- Dave

as hard as i try, i just cant justify spending more than $300 on a monitor.
12/1/2007 1:01:13 PM
especially when you can get TWO 22" for the price of ONE 24"
12/1/2007 3:23:47 PM
yeah but a 22 only does 1050 whereas the 24 does 1200
12/1/2007 5:22:36 PM
^And at those sizes, you really can't tell to much difference
1/2/2008 12:14:02 AM
I'm also looking at a 24" and up LCD's. Mainly want the higher resolution for photo processing that and I love my laptop which does 1920x1200 res. I also want a non-TN screen.
1/2/2008 2:27:20 AM
^be careful, there are a lot of 16.7million color LCD's out there that are 6-bit+HiFRC TN panels = not true 8-bit non-TN panels... just be sure to dig deeper than reading the # of colors
