Yankees to overpay for every player, ever.
11/6/2007 12:28:51 PM
Pettitte declined his $16M option. Crazy...So the Yankees rotation looks like absolute crap right now. Mussina, Wang, Hughes, Joba and Kennedy? That isn't close to a playoff rotation. One over the hill, one good and three complete unknowns...-----Reading the NY papers it seems that the Mets are going to make a serious push at A-Rod... and also will likely re-sign Lo Duca to a 2-3 year deal.[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 1:40 PM. Reason : x]
11/6/2007 1:39:16 PM
^ Honestly if they get Pay-Rod, where will he play? SS and move Reyes to 2B or move Wright to 2B and let A-Rod play 3B? The Mets do not need him. I do not understand them wanting to spend $25-30 million on him when they could spend less on Santana and improve the team more.
11/6/2007 1:55:31 PM
^Agreed. The Mets need pitching more than hitting right now. Would also rather see him as a Met than a Yank. Even tho it might mean my Braves have to shoot for the wild card right off the bat.
11/6/2007 2:17:20 PM
^^ Totally agree, they have nowhere to put him. Whereever he goes, I'm betting that he will not get the kind of money he turned down in NY. And that moment will be sweet.
11/6/2007 4:11:52 PM
I'm guessing A-Rod ends up in Cali. LA (either one) or SF.
11/6/2007 4:21:25 PM
I would say that if the cubs had a definitive ownership situation, he would go to CHicago. But I say the Dodgers overpay for him.
11/6/2007 4:23:08 PM
I'm asking the baseball fans, do y'all want to keep this thread or just use the MLB Offseason thread?
11/6/2007 4:31:40 PM
Lets just use this one... There is NO quality pitching available. I would love the Mets to go after pitching but since there really isn't much in the line of top of the rotation pitchers out there you do what you can to improve the team... stack the lineup and fix the bullpen.A-Rod is still a longshot, but Wright has agreed to move to 2B if need be, however dangerous that may be.---------NL Gold Glove Winners announced todayMaddux won again. Rowand, Andruw, Francouer and Beltran for the OF. Wright, Rollins, Hudson and Lee on the infield and Russell Martin at C.[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 4:43 PM. Reason : x]
11/6/2007 4:42:23 PM
Wow Yadier Molina and Pujols won the Bible awards as best fielders at their positions in the whole majors and they can't win gold gloves? I mean who votes on these things? Franceour is good but not gold glove worthy. Rollins won on hype as well, as long as Omar Vizquel is playing, he should get it.
11/6/2007 4:55:24 PM
^^ Sweet Franceour got his first gold glove. Respect the cannon.[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 4:56 PM. Reason : ^]

arguing over gold gloves might just be the dumbest thing ever

Miguel Cabrera is on the block. I gotta figure Willis is close behind. He made $7.4m via arbitration last year and I figure he'll make around $9m in 2008. That's a lot of money, but this guy is phenomenal. I have no idea what the Marlins are asking, but I'd sell the farm for him.
11/6/2007 5:51:10 PM
i dont think willis is. its not a firesale issue, its that he's making a lot of money and supposedly has no work ethic. i mean look at how fat the guy has gotten. that said, he can still hit a baseball and i'd love for him to stick around.
11/6/2007 5:52:05 PM
I think Willis has unofficially been on the block for about two years now. I'm not saying that the Marlins are actively trying to move him but I wouldn't be surprised if they did. His ERA was almost as high as his salary this year.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3099599Phillies get Lidge from Astros.
11/8/2007 9:13:51 AM
Braves new GM Wren talks to Glavine about bringing him home. I hope they actually work out a deal here. Mets need him and the Braves certainly need him. Also, Clemens is offering his services to the Astros as a consultant (via his agent)... still undecided if he should retire or not. I think last season with the Yanks is the final proof that he just needs to lay it down.
11/8/2007 9:47:07 AM
^^ I like what the Phillies are trying to do in bringing Lidge because his stuff can be so dominate, but since I hate the Phillies, here's to hoping the Pujols curse lives with Lidge in Philly.Bourn has some real potential so I'm glad the Phils are losing a good bat and fast runner from their lineup.
11/8/2007 4:57:34 PM
^^ I don't think there is a single Mets fan alive that wants Glavine back...
11/8/2007 5:04:49 PM
So when do we get to see and hear the names on the George Mitchell report?Just said on ESPN that their were 12 free-agents on the list
11/8/2007 7:24:55 PM
do these guys not face any kind of criminal action? i mean steroids are fucking illegal, but all they're getting is punished at their jobs
11/8/2007 7:29:57 PM
^^^ Regardless of if you want him back or not, he is a solid starter. This during a time where starting pitching isn't exactly overloaded in supply... it would be in the Mets best interest to keep him around.^^ I bet you Andruw Jones is on that list... he's fucking fat as hell from where he was just a few years back.[Edited on November 9, 2007 at 8:25 AM. Reason : .]
11/9/2007 8:24:28 AM
^ Andruw has been slowly getting fatter each season he has been in the majors. I seriously doubt he is on the roid list. If so, he needs to get a better supplier.
11/9/2007 9:27:30 AM
^ lol for real... but look at the season before last... his breakout year (although hitting in the 260s). Then back to his mediocre ole self with flashes of greatness.
11/9/2007 1:43:24 PM
Omar Vizquel resigned with the Giants, the best fielding shortstop other than Ozzie Smith.
11/9/2007 6:06:45 PM
^ Troy Tulowitzki disagrees Todd Jones resigned with the Tigers, the Tigers traded Omar Infante to the Cubs for Jacque Jones, and Jorge the turtle Posada is close to resigning with the Yankees.
11/12/2007 4:59:11 PM
posada back to the stanks / 4 years, 52 mili was hoping the mets would sign him. what could be better than an enormous contract tied to an aging catcher... but having the yanks stuck with him for 4 more years i guess is the next best thing[Edited on November 12, 2007 at 11:53 PM. Reason : (]

LOL, Bonds was offered his first offer from the Independent Wild Things of the Frontier League. They offered him the league maximum of $1200/month... but there are extras:- 50/50 share of merchandise sales- a host family so he doesn't have to rent an apartment- a single king room on road trips(I'm not lying: http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/11/13/ap4334744.html)

that's kind of like trading shit for poop
11/28/2007 4:03:58 PM
Johann Santana evidently on the trading block
11/28/2007 4:04:16 PM
it's doubtful that he's going anywhere thoughbeing that he's in the final year of his contract, teams want to negotiate with him beforehand and avoid a one year rentalthe twins aren't allowing that to happen and no one is going to sell their farm system for just one year of johan
11/28/2007 4:09:43 PM
look to the yankees.Twins can't keep him... Then what, he goes this last year and walks away and the Twins get nothing. If they don't trade him now, they certainly will before the trade deadline.
11/28/2007 4:10:46 PM
well exactly -- and now is the time to trade him, when everyone thinks they're in contention and he's still healthybut the twins are handling this like morons, no one is going to trade for him if they don't have a contract worked out firstthe yankees are the most likely suitors but they'd have to give up at least one, if not two, of their big three pitching prospectsunless the twins management wakes up, i don't see a deal happening in the offseason (winter meetings are next week, i think?) -- which means nothing happens until the deadline, by then of course the twins will be getting pennies on the dollar
11/28/2007 4:14:41 PM
don't forget draft compensations if johan walks. i would imagine he pitches well again, and if so, will be a Type A FA, netting the twins picks. if this is what you mean by pennies on the dollar, then sure, i agree with you, but it's more than nothing. for a team like the twins who are building young and cheap, this wouldn't be a horrible thing.
11/28/2007 4:32:05 PM
i wasn't talking about draft pick compensationconsidering he would likel be signed by one of the big market clubs (which means a low pick), that would be pesos on the dollarif the twins don't deal him for an incredible group of prospects, including several that are just a year or two away from being ready for the big leagues, they're getting hosed
11/28/2007 4:36:47 PM
am i the only one who missed the devil rays changing their name?they're now just the rays, new uniforms and everything

11/29/2007 6:58:54 AM
11/29/2007 7:32:10 AM
you are implying they will get much less for santana if they only get draft picks, much less so if (and likely so) a large market team signs him. completely agree.you initially said they would get pennies on the dollar, then later said a large market team would sign him causing the twins to get a low pick, comparing that to pesos on a dollar. this implies less value with the peso. there are 100 pennies in a dollar. there are roughly 11 pesos to a dollar. the same amount of pennies would be much less in value than the same amount in pesos. arbitrarily speaking 4 of each, in pennies would be 4 cents, yet 4 pesos would be roughly 44 cents.
11/29/2007 11:21:50 AM
The worst part about the Tampa Bay name change, and I'm not 100 percent sure on this, but I think they are dropping the meaning of Rays as in the sense of stingrays altogether. Rays now indicate rays of sunshine. Thats got WNBA written all over it.
