the level and scope of the class?I'm in CHEM 174 The Food of Chemistry at UNCA and not only is it a typical chemistry class with a proper lab but it has NUMEROUS outside of class projectsright now we have two out of class GROUP projects... so I have two different groups working on two different projects simultaneously for the same classone of the projects is to develop a presentation for a nutrition class that we're working with on our lab results regarding the healthfulness of food on campusthe other project is to create a video about the chemical processes involved in some form of food production

sounds like you are getting your money's worth.
11/6/2007 9:03:33 AM
and some, buddy!I've also had a group project (the members were primarily people from other classes in my "cluster" of classes) that involved catering a meal at a dinner about sustainability that was judged - my group wonand typically in this class we've got more than one assignment due on any given daylate work gets 50% off
11/6/2007 9:05:09 AM
id be pretty pissed if i had that much to do for a UNCA class

I'm doing a video on beer because I know homebrewers and some professionalsgetting a tour of a professional brewery^^ the point wasn't that it was at UNCAit was that it was a 100 level course[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 9:10 AM. Reason : you boring fucker]

E497B... I think it only counts as three hoursI think our final group paper will end up being at least 200 pages, single spaced[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 9:14 AM. Reason : it hurts]
11/6/2007 9:13:58 AM
sucks to be you
11/6/2007 9:14:24 AM
Yeah, I've had this happen from time to time.
11/6/2007 9:22:07 AM
GN 412Tons of homework assignments that are pretty tough and the course is only 1 credit hour
11/6/2007 9:28:38 AM
in addition to all of the chemistry nonsense we are also reading a novel that we occasionally are asked to write papers onbut we have so many assignments and the dates of the assignments often change with minimal warning that it is impossible to keep track of itlots of folks in that class bring in an assignment, turn it in and then realize that ANOTHER assignment was due that daylots of surprised "GOD DAMNIT!"s and "MOTHERFUCK!"

I'm in ADN 111 (Intro to 2D design for non-majors).. and I do more work for that single class than all my other classes combined this semester. I've also been required to spend $100+ easily on supplies that I'll not be able to sell back. Shoulda taken another arts class
11/6/2007 9:41:47 AM
they have drop dates for a reason folks.

CH230, it's the computer option for chemistry majors. unnecessarily hard for a 1 credit hour course meant to fulfill a computer requirement.i wish i had taken E115.
11/6/2007 9:48:01 AM
I couldn't have dropped this classunless I didn't want to graduate next semesteranyone want to help me with some heat transfer problems?
11/6/2007 11:19:33 AM
i've had some classes that were like that- like my journalism my last semester- we had 2-5 articles/projects due everyweek- it was a 100 level classalthough, i might be a bit biased being a science major
11/6/2007 11:21:29 AM
well if the class was a writing class and had regular writing assignments I suppose that makes sensebut I've already catered a meal and now I have to produce a video for this CHEMISTRY classdamn interdisciplinary studies
11/6/2007 11:22:50 AM
11/6/2007 11:23:15 AM
i would have appreciated having classes like that.
11/6/2007 11:34:58 AM
I do appreciate itit is interesting, I'm learning a lot and it can be lots of funHOWEVER, I have 3 other classes that also require a fair bit from meshit is getting tiring

If 225g of liquid water at 100C is added to a 150g ceramic coffee cup at room temperature (25C) What temperature will the water be after reaching thermal equilibrium with the coffee cup?The heat capacity of water is 4.184 J/gC and the heat capacity of the ceramic is 1.381 J/gC.
11/6/2007 11:39:04 AM
Q=(mass)(heat capacity)(temp difference)and Q(lost) = Q(gained)so,(225)(4.184)(100-T)=-(150)(1.381)(T-25)[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 11:41 AM. Reason : unless you're worrying about conduction, convection and other fun differentials]
11/6/2007 11:41:03 AM
thanks!I figured it was something like thatHow about this one?How much heat is required to convert a 25g ice cube at -20C to steam at 150C?
11/6/2007 12:02:23 PM
the heat required to raise the temp from -20 to 0 + the heat required to melt the ice to water + the heat required to raise the temp from 0 to 100 + the heat required to vaporize the water + the heat required to raise the temp from 100 to 150keep in mind that the specific heat will be different for the ice, liquid water, and steam[Edited on November 6, 2007 at 12:22 PM. CE 381 Hydraulics measurement lab is a prime example of this.

^how does that work?

thanksthe total q=78,540JI'm having a little trouble working out the first one but that's because I'm mathtarded

Architecture Design Studio...since I've been in school - every semester. 12 hours a week of class time for 6 credits and you are expected to have edited everything and more that the professor told you about in the previous classExample: A week before the final review on a project, my professor told me that my building looked much better when it was upside down. So I had to rework all the floors/sections/elevations, rebuild the model (3D on the computer and physically) among other things all in a week. I typically get home between 2-4am. Sleep a few hours and start it over again the next day. So, if I sleep 1/2 as much as everyone else, does that mean I'm going to live 1/2 as long??

E101.1 credit hour.2 hour class + Group meeting on my own time? screw that. Then again E101 is easy as fuck.
