WTF?

How is this similar to the police blotter incident at all? These guys deserve very harsh punishment. 20 years is probably overkill, but I don't think some jail time is unreasonable.

someone please post the police blotter about the dude rubbing his ass on the windshield

^ You have to realize that kind of thing is normal. News reports always state statutory maximums to scare/deter people and overblow a story. In reality, they'll likely not get anywhere near that as the punishment. It doesn't make sense to post a thread to bitch about some news article listing the statutory maximum punishment for a crime.

I should certainly freaking hope that an IT manager would have a better password than that. If for no other reason than the system should *require* a better password than that.

yeah this guys hacking was for gainI think I remember there being something in the law that makes that worseand if a sophomoric indiscretion like the police blotter incident warrants a max sentence of 10 years I think they may execute this fuckerthat's right, fuck this guy upI have never cheated in college and I think the actions of these two cheapen my degree (at an unconnected institution)

someone forgot to obscure their doings sufficiently The other night on America's Most Smartest Model, they [the judges] interpreted a straight up act of cheating as simply, "Being competetive". Maybe one day "Hacking the System" will be a valid thesis paper. ]]

it said it was web based. Probably just an everyday packetsniffer, filter for IP address, wait 30 minutes after lunch when they log back in, profit.
