I just bought a new bike, no leaks when I bought it. I figured I'd go ahead and change the oil and filter the week I got it. I couldn't find a good motorcycle oil (pure synth or synth blend) with a friction modifier so I went with castrol syntec gtx which was recommended on several sites. Now I'm leaking oil from the valve cover. The bike only has (an assumed) 6k on it so I figured a synthetic blend wouldn't cause too many problems. Will switching back to pure dino oil fix the issue or should I just replace the valve cover gasket and top it off again? Am I just being stupid and this is an unrelated coincidence? The oil that's leaking doesn't look fresh like what I put in, but old sludgey stuff that's already broken down.

its probably been leaking for a while and they just cleaned it off before you bought it, clean engines make me suspicious when i'm buying things

valve cover gaskets are easy 123 done.dont run synthetic crap on that bike. i run dyno on all mine. never had a problem, i just change more frequently.

I can think of three i've done recently which involve dropping the engine just to get the valve cover off
