So I have noticed over the past few weeks that my water has been turning my shower a light orangish color in places. Today I noticed that my white plastic dixie cup that I use in my bathroom has turned a light orangish color in the bottom of the cup. What the hell is going on here? What is in the water that is doing this?

the water itself is not a color, it's after a little of the water sits on something white for a long time.

you may have bird bath alga growing in there. here's a little page about it. http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artjan99/haem.htmlthis stuff can definitely grow in your house, my bird's water bowl has it sometimes (and no, its not just associated with birds)[Edited on November 3, 2007 at 6:23 PM.
