Instead of making a ton of 'want to upgrade my RAM in my mac mini' or 'want to upgrade HDD in my macbook' threads...we can keep them all contained in here. I'll start it off with...I'm upgrading my memory in my macbook pro. My question is this: I know its 1 stick of 1gb in there right now...so i'm going to upgrade to 2gb by buying 2x1gb. Is the 1gb in there already in a memory slot or is it some kind of crazy 'i'm attached to the motherboard and you can't remove me, apple proprietary shit'? Which means I only have 1 expandable slot to add to?

apple may have relatively closed systems, but they don't solder their damn memory to the mother board. just pull out your battery and take a look. if this is the stock-configuration, it's actually likely that there are 2 sticks of 512MB occupying both slots, so you either can upgrade one slot to 1.5GB or both slots to matched 2GB.

its actually just one 1gb stick according to system profile. Which would indicate the configuration. I guess I will go ahead and order the 2x1gb config so i can have identical sticks in there.

The RAM hasn't been soldered in apple laptops since early iBooks (and the 12 inch PB). In every computer they sell now, all the memory slots are open.

i thought it would be ridiculous if they were but again i wasn't 100% sure. Thanks for the info.

I haven't played with Leopard much since the release, did they take out the ability to use google in it?

apparently the automatic douche bag filter doesn't work yet. I'll have to just ignore you the manual way.

I just got an iMac and replaced the 1GB that comes with it with 4GB. Anyone need 1GB of ram for their iMac?

I have a gig of ram also for sale. 2 x 512mbGolovko. I use 123macmini.com to learn a lot about makes, but they have a classifieds section. A little of people upgrade their macs and may of a 1gb stick. This most likely going to give you matching pairs.

^thanks for the info...never heard of that site before. I'll check it out. I had already ordered my memory from newegg but it was only $50 so no biggie. I'm tempted to upgrade my iMac to 4gb though especially soon since memory is so cheap.

yeah it is. My ram was 75$ for 2 gigs, I was watching the price a month ago when it was 105$ for both. 30$ cheaper so I bought it.

I still can't believe that apples website has the 2x1gb for $300 when I just paid $56 including shipping.

ridiculously overpriced apple products? well i never

Apple has always been overpriced. But it's easy to justify when they're product is awesome. But when it's ram and you can get just as good ram (I got Samsung, but crucial is just as good and cheap) for 1/6 of the price. I don't see how they're selling any of it.

^^Memory is not an apple product. But for the sake of your trolling, we'll pretend it is.

^exactlyThey sell hynix most of the time and a few other brans like Samsung.
