So for the past two days. (and this happened suddenly not gradually) the clutch on my car has gone about 70% looser, meaning there is not as much resistance on my foot and I have less time to shift as i'm letting go. Do you think this is a transmission problem? fluid problem?some background.for about 2 months now. A belt as been squeeling as the car warms up. Then it stops and occassionally squeels when I downshift (specifically from 4th to 3rd). Lately (even before the clutch problem) It doesn't squeel as much, but still does the whole downshift thing.Any ideas? thanks guys. This car is slowly going down the drain. everytime I fix it, more things go wrong. I have a few other minor yet annoying problems if anyone wants to take a look at it.thanks again

the belt has absolutely nothing to do with your clutch problem.sounds like the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder. try pumping the clutch rapidly a few times and see if the resistance builds. it could also just be low in fluid. check the reservoir on top of the clutch master cylinder.

updates this morning. As the car was finishing warming up. I couldn't get the stick in 3rd, 5th or reverse without a loud scraping noise. The brake fluid levels were good. I pumped the clutch several times and the resistance was much better. The car eventually warmed up enough I guess for me to be able to reverse out and then i had no problems driving to work.fourty8ashes did you get this fixed? was it a huge undertaking?

probably needs a new master cylinder if the fluid level is ok, if it is low, its probably a leaking slave cylinder
