why would you open the window and leave the heat on? that seems like a real waste of energy to me...

My apartment was at 68 when i got home yesterday so i turned on the heat to get it up to 73. My roommate then complained that it felt like a sauna. I was just like well take your damn sweatshirt off. My philosophy is that I should not have to wear a jacket/sweatshirt or sweatpants inside to feel comfortable in my apartment.

If I had my way my place would be kept at 78 all winter so i can relax in just my shorts but i'll be money minded and roommate considerate enough to lower it to 71-73 in cold season

Why would you insist on wasting energy just so you can wear shorts? Maybe you're comfortable in shorts, but maybe he's more comfortable in sweats. Get a space heater and just heat your room.

I do not consider it wasting energy to stay comfortable in my apartment.

if i left my windows open it would hit like 40 something in my place

i love the cold, but when the indoor cat's fur smells like outside winter smoke, something's wrong

Did it again last night. Opened the window and propped the fan to suck in the cold air.
I did toss on a 3rd blanket though -- gotta stay warm in bed. So that's 3 fleece blankets, 1 comforter, and 1 sheet. Definitely stayed toasty in the cold room.

ive had my windows open for the past month. We create enough heat in the apt through cooking and appliances where we have the heat turned off and it still stays 75-77 in the apt.

it was such a nice day yesterday. It's was high 60's. Nice breeze. Sun was shining. Perfect.

So my dumb ass thought 'man, what a nice day to go out on the pier to do some fishing'. So I go....

it was nice during the day. But then it hit 5PM. The sun went down. And then a dreadful wind moved through. Needless to say, I was freezing my ass off for about 2 hours. The only thing worse was having to clean the fish with the cold water

I've learned my lesson. Stay in air conditioned environments at all times

I mean, I like to sleep in a cool room, but damn, why do you have the windows open and fans on?

It's getting down to below freezing at night here in the mountains.

That's what I do- I like the fresh air...and i don't have to pay for heat here. BAM! Instant awesome. And I'm an american, that's how I justify the "waste" of energy. I just put a little star on my fridge and all is well.

My roommate and I freshman year had an ongoing battle about windows open/closed at night during the winter months. Whoever fell asleep first lost...

The problem is really not so much during the night though as it is in the morning. I usually sleep under a heavy comforter so I'll be warm when I'm under it. But, if it's cold in the place from windows open/heat off/etc, as soon as you get out from under the covers, you freeze. No fun there.
