anybody take it?

nope...if you do, it will be a huge milestone for mankind, as you will be the first to do so

yep, took it summer 06... not that bad. I thought I was better at lit than math, so I studied a LOT for the math and only a little for the lit - big mistake. Study both sections equally. the GRE is not much worse than the SAT... you just know more by now.[Edited on October 29, 2007 at 11:51 PM. Reason : hmm... you do mean the literature *part* of the GRE, right?]

i think he means the subject testi studied for it all summer and then punked out at the last second--the job market for English PhDs is pretty competitive. best of luck if you decide to take it, though. getting into a good program makes all the difference.

The regular GRE is exactly the same as the SAT, except maybe the words are a little more obscure. Not sure about the subject tests.

if it's anything like the math subject test, it is hard as balls

taking the biochem/molecular biology subject test saturday. good luck with yours if/when you choose to take it.

I have to take this on Saturday. The practice test was fairly difficult.

I'm talking about the subject testshould I take the general GRE, the subject test, or both?the subject test might be a good idea because I will be well studied in literatureI'll be taking my Senior Competency exam around the same time (early February)
10/30/2007 10:08:52 AM
the general is required everywhere. subject depends on where you wanna go.[Edited on October 30, 2007 at 10:30 AM. Reason : ]

it's been a while for me...but if I remember correctly, I think the GRE general was required for every grad school I applied to. Certain schools and programs required the GRE subject test as well, but not all.
10/30/2007 10:32:00 AM
is it possible to take them both concurrently?
10/30/2007 10:41:28 AM
probably not. I'm not positive about that though. But you would probably want to take them separately anyway. Just so that you can 'master' the subject matter of one test and devote your energy towards that before moving on to the next. That way, you're not diving your attention/effort studying for two tests.]
10/30/2007 10:44:12 AM
yeahI'm seeing that the GRE subject test is not available in FebruaryI'd either have to take it in November (won't be prepared for that) or wait until AprilI can take the general exam in February thoughI'll do that
10/30/2007 10:51:44 AM
I never knew there *were* separate exams... the GRE I took was one exam with three parts - math, literature, and essays.
10/30/2007 11:01:03 AM
Math is hard!
10/30/2007 11:19:53 AM
The general exam you can literally take any time. Like 6 days a week, whenever you want, as long as you schedule it a month ahead of time. It's all on a computer. And you get your results immediately.[Edited on October 30, 2007 at 11:20 AM. Reason : ]

I'll do well, I think, on the literature and essay partI'll have to brush up on my basic math skillsI don't know no geometrics
10/30/2007 11:20:33 AM
ahaanyone that posts on TWW can do well on the essay part. Basically, you're just picking apart an argument logically, raising, and defending your own pointsI know how TWWers LOOOOVE to argue to the death about any and everything.....especially if they're wrong.
10/30/2007 11:40:59 AM
depends on how you define 'logically'
10/30/2007 11:42:23 AM
