remember in high school gym class, when you had to play volleyball? And someone set you, but when you proceeded to strike the ball......you fell on your face instead? And then your team lost....well this moment is analogous to the situation described above. Skwinkle set me up for the perfect dirty joke. And I honestly sat in my chair for 60 seconds trying to think of a good (funny) response. It didn't happen ]

10/26/2007 11:09:03 AM
I could understand the hostility if I told you my cousin in Nigeria was going to mail you the money, but you deal directly with the bank. Call them and ask if you don't believe me.
10/26/2007 12:27:45 PM

Opening and closing an account like that still will negatively impact your credit score if you make a habit of it.

shawna, it does, but not a lot. it hurts it the same way applying for a mastercard does (which does hurt younger people with less active accounts) depends on the bank, but most that i know of do check your score. grab a checking account app next time you think about itthese places process your info through chexsystems, which is similar to equifax, etc (in that they have partialo financial history on you)... but those are really only dealing with you having a checking account bouncing checks, overdrafting the ATM, generally being a fraudulent asshole to a particular bank, etc. lots of account opener people were trained in better ways to get a more accurate risk potential soooooooooooooooooo, they open your credit report most every time you go to open an account, which counts as an inquiry, which isnt that MUCH of a hit on your credit. but if you do that a bunch of times in a short period, it can hurt you a decent amount. someone can look up the particular numbers if they care, but your score goes down something like 5 points for the next 6 months after the inquiry.but if you stay with the same bank and keep good accounts through them after the initial checks, and your bank knows you, or you have your IRA there, and bla bla, theyre not gonna pull you every time you add a secondary checking or small credit line or whatever.at least thats the way i works in the bank world where jackleg keeps his 12 dollarsplus i think first citzens would fuck you in the ass royally for implying that these peopole open the account with the intention of closing it. in fact, you should read the "fine print" cause i bet youve already sign enough away that they wouldnt even have to take it to court
12/19/2007 4:37:30 PM
does overdrafting hurt your credit rating?
12/19/2007 4:39:20 PM
nice effort.
12/19/2007 4:43:39 PM
12/19/2007 4:58:13 PM
read ppl
12/19/2007 4:59:23 PM
Did you even read the article?
12/19/2007 5:00:19 PM
yeah i did.
12/19/2007 5:00:45 PM
a bank's decision to take on your business != credit score
12/19/2007 5:01:17 PM
the only cases in which ive seen overdrafting hurt people long term is if they say "fuck it" and dont re-zero the balance. in that case, the account closes eventually and you get reported to chexsystems for a negative close, and you'll have to wait some amount of time before you can open an account somewhere else. unless you pay it back, then you only have to wait like half that time.i think chexsystems catches most of that kind of shit, so i dont think it goes on the actual credit report if its a checking account.(please note that i am not 100% on the amounts of time or info in my posts on credit in this thread, these are just things i have witnessed personally or heard about through attorneys)

I'm going off what a bank manager told me, so unless you too work as a bank manager....
12/19/2007 5:19:06 PM
blah blah blah.
12/19/2007 5:48:39 PM
damn dude i even PMed you and said i apologized if i came across as a dick and let you know when and how i found out they did credit checks when you go to open more than standard primary and secondary checking accounts at more than one bank (and likely when you go to open less)i did that #1 the info was a little personal, and #2 because it takes away from the intelligence of the conversation when its in public looking like a pissing contest, but lets squash it
12/19/2007 9:05:48 PM
12/19/2007 9:52:55 PM
so are any other banks doing the thing skwinkle was trying to do in this thread?
12/19/2007 10:01:27 PM
I think Suntrust does it, but I do not believe the amount is as large. I got my $100, so I'm happy.
12/19/2007 10:24:42 PM
hmmm...well come jan 1st i might try to do this...is there any benefit to opening multiple checking accounts? i mean i noticed from this thread that opening and closing accounts is bad but what if i open a few and just keep them?
12/19/2007 10:32:57 PM
can i get it without giving you any money?
