to get some grass from the golf course and over a period of time eventually turn my backyard into either the fairway or something similar...across the street is where they have the reserve strips of grass.not sure though.

sounds like a lot of maintenance

well i wanna be able to chip in my backyard. there was a guy off of six forks road, when i was growing up, who had a putting green on his front lawn.all out grass, hole and flag. it was right on the main road so everyone would see it. this was 10-12 or so years ago, now you can kind of tell but i think he tore it down

We used to have a nice 9 hole courtesy of a putt-putt that had closed down about a decade earlier. I wonder what ever happened to that astro-turf.

if you want a putting green, fake is the way to go

i would like to get some chipping mats from the driving range, but i need something life like to see my divots

It's not hard to boost some turf from golf course maintenance. I'm pretty sure Hedingham golf club has some creeping red fescue. Drought resistant, low maintenance, and requires a smaller amount of water to grow than bentgrass or bluegrass. Of course it would probably be better to just buy your own seed or turf rolls. (It's not much fun swiping stacks of grass.)Use bentgrass for a putting green.[Edited on October 25, 2007 at 2:18 PM. Reason : bent]

its a federal offense to steal turf

You have to be an idiot to get caught.

thermal blue grass >> all others

I've heard thermal blue needs a shitload of watering, but besides that, great for north carolina.

^what.. damn.ill look into bentgrass, and if it seems decent, i may just do a putting green also. but thats probably not going to happen.i think the whole backyard would be too much. i want an area to chip from, and maybe get some bentgrass to simulate a putting green to practice spins.
