You just press that little button in the top right corner of the keyboard that says "Print Screen".

You have to turn off hardware acceleration on your video card or some shit.

google to the rescue.

^^^for macs: shift+apple+3 does the whole screen, shift+apple+4 does a selection

or just use Grab in your utilities folder. Best way to do it. You can drag a selection and take a snap shot. Or select a window and it only takes that window as a snap shot. Or the whole desktop.

yeah but i don't wanna have to dig through my apps folder for something

shift+apple+4 lets you select a portion of the screen
that is good enough for me

You can also press spacebar after apple-shift-4 to capture just a window OR a menu.

You can also hold down control to put the screen capture on the clip board instead of a file.

What's stupid? this was back in the days before printer drivers, where you computer sent ASCII data to the printer, and the printer just reproduced it. It wasn't stupid at all.
