Next it'll break off the coast and fall into the ocean. The good news:The fire is out.

California seems to be excessively prone to natural disastersand yet its very desirable for its natural environmentsame with floridakinda of ironic
10/23/2007 1:06:05 AM
people always want what they can't have.

cary, NC ftwonly 1 natural disaster in ever, that was hurricane fran in '94

10/23/2007 1:15:51 AM
all these posts and no mention of me? very disappointing. and I'll tell you what really sucks bout this fire...constant 'BREAKING NEWS' on every fucking channel with the exception of prime time. No court shows, no nothin during the day except 'BREAKING NEWS' that's by no means breaking
10/23/2007 1:17:10 AM
i was hoping you'd show up, i need to know what famous people had their homes burned
10/23/2007 1:17:59 AM
it would've worked better if i could ghost edit
10/23/2007 1:18:16 AM
^bethaleigh it's wildfire's mostly but one the authorities know for sure was arson. They're all over the place here. Currently the 'Breaking News' is showing a fire near Magic Mountain. I'm actually ok with Magic Mountain burning down cause when I was a kid it was fun, but it's since turned into a cess pool of whitetrash and gang members^^none yet I don't believe with the exception of that castle^ [Edited on October 23, 2007 at 1:20 AM. i was looking at the map or LA county and wa suprised to see that compton is a mere 15 miles from hollywood, that doesnt sound too glamorous
10/23/2007 1:21:41 AM
10/23/2007 1:24:48 AM
the wonderful thing about L.A. is that with very few exceptions, at all times, you're within 1-5 miles away from a form of a sketchy neighborhood. I mean sure, Compton is a bit more than just 'sketchy' but in all my life I have never knowingly gone to Compton
that doesn't sound wonderful at all.
10/23/2007 1:27:08 AM
twas being facetious. I'm surprised more tourists aren't killed here actually...
10/23/2007 1:33:43 AM
^ahhaa, for real it looks like a zoo, theres like 20 cities within a 20 mile radius,
10/23/2007 1:38:09 AM
These are pictures my friend in San Diego took from his house today:
10/23/2007 1:43:05 AM
well that's something else about L.A....it's like no other place in the country in the way it's set up so to speak. Most of the 'cities' are for the sake of ease when describing to someone where abouts in L.A. you are. None of the cities have even a town hall or anything like that. Nor do they have their own police or fire department or it's own school system. Beverly Hills is an exception (they have their own police/fire dep) but there's also Beverly Hills 'post' which is basically people who technically live in L.A. but have a Beverly Hills zip code. Because BH is so small and has kind of odd borders, the only way you know you're in it is because the street signs are white. Now Burbank is another exception but it's much wider and populated than BH.So when people say they're from L.A. unless they're from Burbank or Beverly Hills, then they'd have their police/fire/school be under the LAPD/FD/USD else they're not really from L.A. So on your map, places like 'Montclair' and 'Monrovia' for example...aren't L.A., they just figure it sounds cooler to say they're from L.A. then from some place no one's ever heard of or wants to go.

pretty insane here in san diego -- i think this is worse than 4yrs ago, probably at least another day and a half of santa anas so it'll be awhile before things get under control -- news just said over 200,000 acres burned in san diego county alonethey've evacuated all the way to the pacific just north of here in del mar -- marye anne closed ucsd today and tomorrow 'cause the air is so smoky and full of ash

The one in Malibu started by falling powerlines cause of the santa ana's.....one of the fires I believe near Arrowhead was arson. It started at 3 different points and they're looking for the morons who set it.On another note...getting fire insurance in Malibu is next to impossible. When I was talking to my mom she said they didn't have fire insurance and couldn't get it for this reason exactly.

I lived in San Diego for the last round of fires. By looking at the maps, the fires are further from the heart of the city than they were last time around (roberta you can correct me if I'm wrong). When the fires started last time, we were in the middle of a 7-day anti-terrorism certification cycle with my security unit. I woke up at 4am to take over the watch from one of my chiefs and headed up to the brigde of the ship we were stationed on for the pier security section of the exercise. I stepped out onto the bridge wing to survey our setup and felt ash falling from the sky. I thought it was kind of funny that it felt like it was snowing...then I smelled the light smoke in the air. I figured something caught fire overnight nearby and dismissed it.As the sun started to come up, I noticed the plume of smoke coming off of Otay Mesa. Within the next three hours, we had shut down to go back to our headquarters as they were evacuating some of the military housing in Northern San Diego near Mirimar Air Base. By noon the sky was so thick with smoke you could stare directly at the sun and only see a faint yellow ball. some of the wildest shit I've ever seen.I lived in Pacific Beach, so we weren't threatened. But when I moved a year later, we still were finding ash in the corners of the deck at my apartment. No rain = no natural clean-up.
10/23/2007 12:12:44 PM
i live in metro san diego so i'm not too worried about the fire making it to my place, but it still sucks. a lot of my coworkers live up in north county. a lot of them have been evacuated and i heard on the news this morning over 1000 houses have been lost.
