where/what is the electric company mall?
10/20/2007 9:15:52 PM
^Serious? It's the "mall" that is at the western end of the same building as the bowling alley. The first time I saw Mortal Kombat (1) was at that arcade. Used to buy comics at the adjacent shop.

^^ oh ok, I never knew it was called That's Amore so that threw me off, just knew it as Amore's

i loved starcade most when that's amore was next door, with games still there...pizza and street fighter was FTMFW

Yeah, I remember when the two merged together. Go play a few games and then eat a slice of pizza. I guess they finally got rid of the arcade? How sad...

i cant imagine that video game place was the least bit profitable since, oh maybe the mid-1990s... who even plays standup arcade games anymore, i mean other than $1 or $2 just for old-times-sake?
10/21/2007 7:31:42 PM
that place was PACKED during the school year, during the day/early afternoon
10/21/2007 7:33:53 PM
hmmm...(*furrows brow*)perhaps.
10/21/2007 8:12:59 PM
think late 90's early* 2000
10/21/2007 8:54:41 PM
guess i prolly didnt go in there much after mid-90s. PC games, consoles and handhelds gave me enough time wasters that i didnt have to go spend a bag of quarters.
10/21/2007 9:49:21 PM
that was back when PS One came out
10/21/2007 10:51:24 PM

I used to ride my bike to Starcade at Tarrytown Mall in Rocky Mount. We'd practice up on Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter on N64 or Playstation at home and then go slay all the other kids at the mall. Plus, the employees let us cheat at games like the basketball throw. We'd get sticks and just press the little button in the hoop over and over as fast as we could. The high score went from like 35 baskets to 215 and we'd get giant strings of tickets off of it.

I played the Simpsons arcade game there in the late 80'searly 90's.[Edited on October 22, 2007 at 2:05 PM. Reason : ]

Starcade on hillsborough used to have an entire wall of Pinball machines that I regularly lived at between classes. They also had a pretty good selection of retro games as well.
