Can anyone tell me what year/model/make the car is in the beginning of the Matchbox Twenty "Bent" video is? I'm fairly certain it's a Lincoln... but that's all I know.

it's 1970-1979 lincoln continental. lemme dig up the video on youtube, and i can probably narrow that down further...

okay, it's a 73-77.

these thing are HUGE, one of if not the biggest cars ever produced. i think a cadillac or two may have edged it out. 20ft. long and weigh in at 5k lbs. or so.

there was a pretty clean looking one on craigslist recently... i can't find the link though.

OK, so... 73/77 Lincoln Continental? Perfect. That's waht I want, big gigantanormous. I'm afraid that all I'm going to find are either going to be 15K+ restored models or complete piles of shit. I want it to be functional and clean, but nowhere near perfect. To me, these cars are cool. They are a reminder of the days of 70's excess. I just hope to find one without having to drive 2000+ miles to get it. I think I want black or grey like in the video... any other color would be lame.

yeah. any 70-79 will basically look the same though, i was just being picky... the only difference in all those years was a slight grill change in 71, little different bumpers in 73, and another grill change in 77. 77 also got what's called and opera window, which is basically just a small oval window in the C pillar (behind the rear door).

they were available in a few different trims. if you want a 4 door, you'll be looking for a town car. 2 doors were town coupes. there's also the mark III/IV/V in those years. all 2 doors.

i like these types of cars too. i had a 4 door 68 chrysler newport for a while, and loved it. don't rule out a cadillac, chrysler, etc. from that era either... some other models to consider:

cadillac fleetwood
cadillac sedan deville
chrysler newport
chrysler 300
chrysler new yorker
chrysler imperial

i think you'll be surprised at how affordable they are. typically, the 4 doors don't bring that much money even in really good condition. 2 doors bring a little more, but still aren't that high relatively speaking. these big cars just never have really caught on with collectors, enthusiasts, etc. so the prices haven't been driven up.

you might have to be willing to travel to get the right car though. it's definitely not like buying a honda accord or something. i got my newport in virginia beach. i only paid $2500 for it though, and it was a clean, solid car. not perfect, but far from a pile of junk.
