Are they getting Beyonce to play Ohura?
10/18/2007 11:14:31 AM
don't forget Sylar from Heroes is playing Spock. wasn't there another thread on this though?
10/18/2007 11:21:33 AM
well what did you expect? If you're going to do the crew at a young age, you're going to have to get young actors.Although they could have done better on the bad guy, no need to make that a younger actor.Beyond that, you should at least wait until you see a trailer before you pass judgement on what they're doing. I'm not saying that they're going to revitalize the franchise, but it might at least be better than Star Trek: Insurrection
10/18/2007 11:21:50 AM
^Insurrection wasn't the worst movie. It was pretty bad, but it's got nothing on Nemesis (or ST5, which Billy Shatner ruined because of his massive ego). But yeah, I think it will be quite a task to make a Star Trek movie that's worse than either of those two. That doesn't mean I have high hopes for this one, though.Trek has always had a measure of cheese/campiness to it, but the reason it's sucked donkey balls ever since TNG is because the franchise takes itself way too seriously. And history will show that the more something takes itself seriously, the more other people will poke fun at it. Trek has become a fucking joke in the eyes of many people; you can see it in jokes such as "if you're wearing a red-shirt and/or aren't a main cast memeber, you will die." Trek has become the standard by which to judge bad modern sci-fi and bad writing. I'm not asking for Trek to be loved and respected, but I think that they shouldn't even bother with making another movie right now. Maybe make another one ten years from now. Wait long enough for pop-culture to effectively forget about Trek. After that, the corpse will at least seem fresh.[Edited on October 18, 2007 at 11:48 AM. Reason : blah]

^The red shirt thing originated with the original series.

So, what was so bad about Nemesis? I never saw it.
10/18/2007 12:24:26 PM
people hate it because Data died, and it felt pointless that he did die...oh, and the whole cloning picard thing...but if they actually took their horse blinders off they'd actually discover that it's by far not the worst Star Trek movie out there... i can think of two off the top of my head that are worse (Insurrection, and IV: the search for big fish)
10/18/2007 12:44:17 PM
If I ever see you in person I owe you a swift kick to the jimmy for saying Star Trek IV is one of the worst. My friend told me the other day that Sylar would be playing the next Spock. This intrigues me.[Edited on October 18, 2007 at 1:19 PM. Reason : ]

i actually thought Nemesis was good. Data didnt really die, he downloaded his entire memory into B4 which they hinted at slowly becoming Data in the end of the movie (whistling).I personally think the idea of doing a young cast is the worst fucking idea ever

see, IV wasn't bad. V was bad, Nemesis and Insurrection were bad. IV was the shit. I think I appreciated it more because it was funny rather than being associated with the series.

Nemesis was the best imo

A: he gets to know picard because he doesn't feel like he's a full person, that's fairly well established. PIcard is the closest thing he has to family. Beyond that, he has a lot of personal respect for Picards. But then, no Star Trek villian has ever dined with the captain before wanting to kill him... that's just unheard of right? You don't destroy Romulus because you need the Romulan military, which he has at the moment. Also, he goes after Earth to elevate Romulus yes, but it's a Romulus under Reman control. You don't simply wipe out your captors, you rule them, it's actually fairly reasonable.Pretty simple thoughts that easily explain things if you just take time to actually watch the movie. And i never heard Shinzon touted as the next best thing to Kahn, the next best thing to Kahn would probably be Q, but he's not evil enough. I"m not saying it was a good movie, but I can still think of worse. Insurrection barely qualifies as a movie, it was a two part episode at best. And a bad one at that.Oh, and Star Trek written as comedy doesn't count as a movie either, it also counts as bad episode writing. If i walk into a movie theater, or sit down for a 2 hour block expecting to see a movie, i want to see a movie. I don't want to live in nostalgia for the humorous bantering of old Star Trek comedy episodes, if I want to see that i'll watch some.

bring back Nick Meyer
10/18/2007 6:19:53 PM
The one with the whales (IV) was #1 or #2. Anyone who thinks otherwise simply has terrible taste. It's from the group of trek movies where the even-odd rule still applies.
10/18/2007 8:19:30 PM
Nemesis only had one really really good part..when Data is about to jump from the enterprise to the romulan ship..he turns and gives Geordi this look, and Geordi just nods back and then data takes off...best fucking moment
10/18/2007 10:59:33 PM
"the one with whales" is #2VI is #1, this is not debatable
10/18/2007 11:03:10 PM

1. II2. VI3. First Contact4. IV5. III 6. Generations7. Motion Picture8. Nemesis9. V10. Insurrection
10/18/2007 11:29:17 PM
I'd have to put First Contact at the top of the list.
10/18/2007 11:37:48 PM
The Motion Picture: seen most of it, plot is very detached from the other films; film makes for a good allegory and man's search for GodWrath of Khan: awesome, ships blowing upSearch for Spock: never seen itVoyage Home: decent, the travel back in time thing was good, Chekov in the 1980s asking random San Franciscans on the street in a heavily Russian accent "we're looking for nuclear vessel" makes the film in my opinion Final Frontier: seen all of it, a bit blahUndiscovered Country: good movie, explains how the Klingons and humans started to get along when Picard and Worf were on the same bridgeGenerations: got to see Shatner die, this one was greatFirst Contact: best one, Picard goes into the Captain Ahab role that he'd later portray in a TV movie, and after years of being a bland android Brent Spiner is allowed to show emotionsInsurrection: blahNemesis: better than Insurrection in my opinion, just cause of the whole humanism with Data dying and the bad guy being Picard's twin, plus this is like Undiscovered Country as here the Romulans and humans get along at the endThe problem with the Star Trek franchise IMO is there's really nothing left to "discover", there's nowhere left for the Enterprise to "boldly go where no man has gone before". No one really cared about Voyager or Enterprise.[Edited on October 19, 2007 at 12:46 AM. Reason : a]

Only two ideas left to do in the trekverse1. Do something between Kirk's time and Picard's time2. The Death of the Federation..would be extremely bad ass, make it dark as hell.
