Ok. Here is a scenario. Three SEC teams finish in the Top 8.There are 10 BCS slots available.6 - go to conference champions (including NC game)4 - at largeHowever, there is a rule that each conference can only have 2 at-large bids. So how exactly can you deny one of the Top 8 teams in the BCS solely because they play in a ridiculously hard conference. Can you tell me a potential 2 or 3 loss ACC or Big XII team deserves to get in over a 2 loss SEC team solely because of some stupid clause?-----------------Some predictions as to who would get selected right now as we stand. These will change.1) Ohio State: MNC game - Big 10 Champ2) USF: MNC game - Big East Champ3) BCU: Orange Bowl - ACC Champ4) LSU: Sugar Bowl - SEC Champ5) Oklahoma: Fiesta Bowl - Big XII Champ6) South Carolina: Orange Bowl - At large8) Arizona St: Rose Bowl - Pac 10 Champ9) WVU: Sugar Bowl - At large10)/12) Oregon/Cal: Fiesta Bowl - At large11) Va Tech: Rose Bowl - At largeAnyone notice something? 8,9,10 and 11. No 7.How absurd would it be to not invite the #7 ranked team in the BCS but inviting the #11 team solely because the conference 7 is in is so much stronger than the one 9 and 11 are in?[Edited on October 17, 2007 at 4:55 PM. This happens in other sports. In the NBA, the Western Conference had more than 8 of the best 16 teams, but only 8 made the playoffs. In the NFL last year, the AFC had more than 6 of the best 12 teams, but only 6 made the playoffs.
10/17/2007 7:02:31 PM
nba playoffs and bcs bowls are apples and oranges, sir.
10/17/2007 7:44:37 PM
I'm no BCS expert, but it is my gut feeling that the attrition in the SEC, ie. them beating themselves, almost guarantees that they won't get 3 in the top 8 to end the season unless the planets in the other conferences align just right?
10/17/2007 7:54:07 PM
If South Carolina plays BC in the Orange Bowl, BC might have 20 percent of the fans there. That will be one of the most one sided bowl crowds of all time.
10/17/2007 7:57:06 PM
^^^exactly...apples and oranges are both fruit. BCS bowls and NBA playoffs are both postseason systems that limit the amount of teams per conference that can participate.[Edited on October 17, 2007 at 7:57 PM. Reason : 3]

Tennessee is going to win the SEC and fuck everything up

I think the least of the problems with the BCS is the fact that there can only be 2 teams from one conference. That might actually be a decent rule, because it helps to spread the money out and at the end of the day that helps college football(and the athletic departments that money supports) in general. What a dumb thing to pick on, the fact that an SEC team might get a raw deal. This system is terrible, so many things wrong, and you are worried about the 3rd SEC team?
10/17/2007 8:07:24 PM
the BCS owes the SEC forever for that Auburn shit a few years back

Michigan lost to App State. If they are in the BCS the Big 10 is a bigger joke than I ever could have imagined...So there is a very real chance that after next week 3 of the top 5 in the BCS will be coming from the SEC. Especially if UK can get by UF... talk about total dominance.Wasn't the ACC supposed to be as good as the SEC after the expansion? That Fiutak guy on CFN.com has WVU and Ohio St playing for in the MNC game.. that would mean EVERY SEC team would have to lose again as well as OU..[Edited on October 18, 2007 at 11:46 PM. Well the problem with the ACC is that we have terrible QBs (save Matt Ryan). The ACC has plenty of talent, and in fact has had more draft picks in the past two years than any other conference.

It's about to be a moot point. After tonight there is a good chance EVERY SEC team will have 2 losses... what a ridiculously hard conference. It works against them really... no chance the SEC will be in the MNC game with 2 losses. I don't see OU, tOSU, or WVU losing again from here on out. *** I'm going to make an annual award for the most underachieving team compared to their talent level every year. What happens if Hawaii wins out???Their current BCS standing is at 17 and if they win out, the computer and human poll could place them easily in the top 12. They could get a berth; 50/50. Maybe to the Fiesta or Sugar.
10/22/2007 4:27:40 AM
All I know is that there's no way in hell Ohio State is the best team in the country. Oh and thank god USF lost.
10/22/2007 6:59:10 AM
Here is an unlikely but interesting scenario.WVU wins out and moves up to #2 in BCS and automatically qualifies for MNC game. This could very well happen and I've seen multiple people predict this oddly enough...USF wins out and gets Big East automatic bid... not as likely to happen but not totally unrealistic either. So a team that did not win their own conference could be playing for the title. This should NEVER happen. I was outraged that Nebraska got their doors blown off against Miami the year they didn't win their conference (didn't even win their division IIRC!!).

^^ I was just about to post that. That just blows my mind that this BCS thing still hasn't been fixed when it was an obvious issue before. Forget about being proactive, the BCS committee can't even be reactive.
10/23/2007 10:45:36 AM
The problem there isn't the computers, as it was in 2002. 2002 Average poll rankings:Human:1. Miami2. Oregon3. Colorado4. NebraskaComputers:1. Miami2.17 Nebraska4.50 Colorado4.83 OregonSo, thanks to the computers, instead of getting the best possible matchup, Miami and Oregon (who blew out Colorado 38-16 in the Fiesta Bowl), we ended up getting the worst possible matchup imaginable. Here's how it goes this year.Human:6. West Virginia12. USFComputer:5. USFT-10. West VirginiaIn fact, in the computer polls, only one of them has West Virginia ranked above USF, and that is the Richard Billingsley poll. So, this year, the fault is all due to extremely dumb human polls. I wonder what percentage of them even know that West Virginia lost to South Florida. The problem now is that the pollsters are only going by the history of the program, as opposed as looking at the team that's playing this year. That's why USC is still ranked number 7 in the Harris Poll despite losing to a terrible Stanford team, despite nearly losing to another awful Arizona team. That's why ASU is ranked number 8 in the Harris Poll despite being undefeated and destroying that very same Stanford that beat USC at USC. I think every pollster that has West Virginia ranked above USF and every pollster that has USC ranked above ASU should be fired, because they're not doing their job. What they are saying that USC can be excused for losing to a terrible Stanford team at home because they're USC, and by default we should give them the national title. But when USF loses to a pretty darn good Rutgers team with a Heisman trophy candidate on the road, SCREW THEM.
10/23/2007 1:02:18 PM
^That was in 01. In 02, Miami and Ohio State were both undefeated and the ref that threw the late flag stole the championship from Miami.
10/23/2007 1:08:06 PM
^ You're right, my mistake there.

10/23/2007 5:40:51 PM
Prediction: If LSU wins this weekend (actually, do they have a bye this weekend? if so even better) then they will jump BC in the polls. I swear everyone has been chomping for an excuse to jump BC, and sneaking out a 14-10 win against a team that LSU murdered would be just the excuse they need.If OSU wins, it'll be 1. OSU 2. LSU 3 BC in the polls.[Edited on October 26, 2007 at 8:40 AM. Reason : sorry about that, slighty hungover... V-is exactly right]

Don't need a full playoff 8 or 16 team playoff.. 4 would be fine.Use the current BCS ranking format(if they are going to waste years adjusting it might as well use it for something) Just take the top 1-4, let 1 play 4 and 2 play 3 winner plays the following week. The other two BCS bowls not used for the playoff just host the teams that they want that are left. Leave the rest of the bowl layout as is as well.
