I want to know people opinion of the place. I have a job interview up there and seeing as though I have never been and probably won't be able to judge whether I like the city or not, I wanted to get other peoples opinions. Whether you've lived there or ust visited any insight will help. Also how is the night life?

The only way Albany might look good is in comparison with Buffalo. As you've gathered from the opinions posted thus far, upstate NY is not a place you want to move. All of upstate NY sucks all of the time, although winter is def the worst.

I was born in albany, lived in upstate new york for awhile too. To be honest...it's a great place to visit. I'm from a small town on the Hudson River about 45 minutes from Albany. It's nice to go back during the summer and for thanksgiving and stuff...but I could just never imagine myself living there. It's depressing at times...cold weather from october to the end of april. But take a visit, see if the place has any redeeming qualities and run w/ it.

As Gumbified said, it's a nice place to visit, at least the area is...been years since I've been to Albany. I grew up in upstate NY; I wouldn't want to live there again though. It's beautiful north of Albany, but life sucks in winter. Too bad you aren't going up during summer.^^^Watertown sucks. Been there a bunch and it's a miserable and depressing place.

Yesh I am going up there on Oct 31st and leaving the next day. It will be kind of hard to get a real sense on the place seeing as though I will only be there for the day/night. They are supposed to take me to dinner so maybe I will get to see some of the town then.

I grew up in NY and an old girlfriend went to Albany St......Nothing up there man. If it is a job that will build your resume go for a couple years and get out. Lots of bars !! Good Luck

i've been up in schnectady and saratoga in the summer. i thought it was beautiful up there and so clean. they both seemed like cute places to live, if you have to be near albany....saratoga seemed to have a fun nightlife.....
