have fun
10/11/2007 10:27:45 AM
how far is the trip??
10/11/2007 10:32:13 AM
2,360 miles.
10/14/2007 6:50:48 PM
That honestly has to be one of the dumbest fucking things I can imagine anyone doing. That isn't a road trip. That is a bunch of retarded nerds hoping they can do something that they'll be able to tell stories aboutOnly to realize they just drove 2300+ miles and didn't get a chance to see shit but the windshield and some asphalt.Christ, are you kidding, did you really do that?
10/14/2007 6:53:18 PM
that's rather presumptuous
10/14/2007 6:54:34 PM
any trip more than a couple hundred miles had better involve something with a set of wings.
10/14/2007 6:57:05 PM
Seattle? LA? Vegas? What's the destination? There's a lot of shit to see on the way to any one of those places so it's actually very easy to imagine that they'll be quite a lot to talk about later. This is easily a week long trip, preferably 10 days if you can swing it, that cuts the daily drive from 6 hours to 4. 4 hours per day driving isn't shit and gives you another 8 hours to do stuff during the day.
10/14/2007 6:58:10 PM
Yes, I did. Not with any help, mind you. And the reason I did it was to see America before I spend 20 years out at sea, which I'm set to do with the Navy. And yes, I'd rather reflect on the past few months driving through Indiana cornfields than sitting in Raleigh twiddling my thumbs. So you can go fuck yourself. I love driving.
10/14/2007 6:58:55 PM
Its a two day old burrito, and a lukewarm beer to go,on the Sunday side of a road trip weekend,Lordy I was feeling so low!But somebody flipped on the jukebox, and I heard old Bob Wills sing,"won't you stay all night, stay a little longer", so I held on another day.
10/14/2007 7:00:33 PM
spending like 2 weeks driving from raleigh to portland was one of my best memories.just can't get that kind of time off anymore, and I regret having not done more trips like that before going into the "real world"more power chembob
10/14/2007 7:00:35 PM
Went up to Pittsburgh and then came down the Ohio to Point Pleasent, WV. Cut across to Vincennes, Indiana via Cincinatti, then down to St. Louis, then down to Cape Girardeau, down to Cairo, Illinois, then to Paducah, Ky. Then made my way to the Cumberland Gap, went down to Asheville and cut back to Raleigh.

If you've never done the "great american roadtrip" you're a dumbshit. The US is an astounding place and guess what NC folks, most of the really cool stuff is pretty far from here. If you live in the US and you never see Yellowstone, the Rockies, the Grand Canyon, the Mississippi River, Mt. Rushmore, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, etc, etc. you have seriously cheated yourself.Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of cool shit on the east coast, but there's a lot more to the US than what's between New York City and Miami.[Edited on October 14, 2007 at 7:04 PM. (and I've got a 7000 miler during Christmas Break. My home in Texas to San Diego, up the coast to San Fran then down to Death Valley, come back to Raleigh via the Grand Canyon, Omaha, Chicago, DC, and Delmarva. and of course, seeing all the sites along the way.)]
10/14/2007 7:03:21 PM
ngr you better hit the bad lands in SD
10/14/2007 7:04:07 PM
^word. Pretty staggering vistas there.
10/14/2007 7:04:54 PM
^shit, I only have 12 days.
10/14/2007 7:05:04 PM
So we have one person mentioning a week-10 days worth of this, and another person mentioning two weeks. This guy did it in about 80hrs. If we assume he slept 5hrs a night, and drove 80mph for the entire 2300 miles, he drove for right at 30 hrs, and had roughly 35 hrs to see the sights. His amount of time to see stuff was likely less.Sounds like the perfect way to see asphalt and other assholes on the road!!!
10/14/2007 7:05:51 PM
why do you fucking care?
10/14/2007 7:07:07 PM
i agre this wuz dumb, but any time hes off here the better
10/14/2007 7:07:33 PM
If you plot the correct trip route you can still do and see a lot of cool shit just driving. Serious question, would you rather sit in your house playing with your super no friendo or would you rather find out what the rest of the country looks like? Shit, even if you're only seeing the rockies from your car it's still fucking stunning.

10/14/2007 7:17:20 PM
I don't talk a lot about all the shit I've seen, but it was definitely fulfilling to have gone and seen all the stuff I've seen. Perspective is an important thing, if you never leave your little comfort zone, whether that's Raleigh, NC itself, or even "the south" you're missing out. You don't need to go and hike through Joshua Tree, but it's important to get out there. I bet a significant portion of people on this board have never left NC, and that's sad.I don't even like driving that much, but IMO any road trip is a good road trip.

10/15/2007 12:09:47 AM
I love driving too. This time last year I drove to pittsburgh and back in like 36 hours and enjoyed every second of asphalt & windshield.. even though most of it was in the dark.

10/15/2007 2:19:23 PM
id like to do this, but can't afford it yet
10/15/2007 2:32:05 PM
i love road trips. I've got fond memories of several to canada and upstate NY, but haven't ever taken one too far west. I hope to do so soon even though I am in the real world. I dont think I am cut out for this real world thing quite yet. I feel the fire inside me getting bigger to just "go".
10/15/2007 2:33:28 PM
road trips are great....my two longest were Yellowstone and Maine. Had a blast both times....If anyone is thinking about doing it, the sooner the better. It's hard to get a month+ off w/ no obligations and have the cash to do it once you're in the real world, although most can be pulled off fairly cheaply with the right planning.I'd love to take a road trip to Alaska, but that won't happen any time soon. [Edited on October 15, 2007 at 3:00 PM. Reason : \/ lol, this was my big bye week too ]
