So I get a call from my dad at 10:30 telling me he has some bad news. My cousin is 13 years old and he loves sports (football, baseball, basketball). I have probably seen him almost every weekend of my life for ~8 years (that I can remember). Today he was playing a football game for his Middle School and he gets knocked down hard. They think he has a concussion so they take him to the ER and come to find out his brain is actually bleeding. They then send him straight to Charlotte Medical and the doctors haven't given him more than 2 hours to live from when my dad called. He told me there was no reason to drive there because I probably wouldn't make it. It really is crazy to me because I played football for 13 years and had 2 concussions and 2 shoulder surgeries along with 6 broken bones and to see someone lose their life for the game at that age really makes me question a lot of things about my own life. everything happens for reasons unseen to begin withwe dont know why or how or what if, but in the end a few months, years or decades later it all makes sense.sometimes it takes the loss of one life to get your own back on track. without heartbreak and sadness joy wouldnt feel so good.the meaning of life is unknown, but the state of the life that we live is known and thats to live a happy life every minute of every day and realize we are given a short time here, and what we have here is not nearrrrrrrr as close as to what we do and who we help.once again, as a not so repetitive praying soul who every now and then talks to the big man, i wish him the best of well from someone who has been there in his shoes and told they dont have many times left.heres to you and your family in this time of need...shutting of a door just opens another window for life.my thoughts prayers and concerns go out to you all. God bless him.

Was this the kid at North Lincoln? As an alum of East Lincoln, we've had our tragedies as well, off the field. Sorry to hear that man. I know their high school has a kid still having a hard time recovering from a nasty accident. We'll keep you guys in our thoughts.

how terribly tragic.I can only imagine your and your family's pain. I feel awful for your aunt and uncle....My boy is almost 3. My wife says she'll never let him play football. I don't necessarily agree with this approach, but i don't know how i can argue against it. because I'm sure he'll want to at some point. your family has my sincere and deepest sympathy. I don't know how parents can cope with the loss of their child. It's not natural. God, I hope they can find some comfort.[Edited on October 11, 2007 at 2:46 PM. Reason : ]
