Tonight was either the 7th or 8th 9th time in the last 3.5 months. It's getting a little ridiculous.

You've talked plenty of shit about how you'd like there to be lower speeding limits for women than there are for men.

I've got to hope that this last ticket is a wake-up call for you that things you imagine in your head are, in fact, not automatically real.

And I think you've gotten a maximum of four tickets in the past few months. It seems like you're exaggerating and falling back on this "7 or 8" nonsense.

Unless, you really get tickets so often that you can't keep track, in which case you're pathetic.

The first one was about 20 minutes after I arrived in town and took my car off of the trailer. I'd been driving a 26' box truck for the last 3000 miles, and it felt good to be behind the wheel of my Evo again. Couple that with not being familiar with the area or the local speed limits, and the fact that I hadn't hooked my Valentine 1 back up yet, and I got hit for speeding. Prob ~15 over or so. I also had an expired license plate on my car because of a DMV clusterfuck back in FL. I had gotten the correct, current plate just before I'd left FL, but hadn't mounted it on the car yet...fortunately I had it in the backseat, and the cop just gave me a warning for both offenses, on the condition that I find a way to attach the plate before moving the car (I scored some duct tape within about 2 minutes, and was on my way).

Oh, and he almost didn't even notice the license plate thing...he'd already let me off the hook and was going back to his car when he noticed it. All in all, this guy was pretty cool. He'd actually seen me pull into town with my Evo on a trailer, so he knew I'd JUST gotten there a matter of minutes earlier.

I don't recall the order of the rest of them, but I'll start with the ones on base:

-5 over (30 in a 25, on a 4-lane divided road on base)

-rolled through a stop sign

-rolled through another stop sign

-"looked like I was speeding"...he didn't get any sort of speed reading on me, but it looked like I was going fast. I probably was, but it was like a 200 yd long side access road...I kinda jumped on the gas a little, enough to spool the turbo up some, but the road wasn't long enough to break 10 mph over unless you made a concious effort to do so. Oh, and it was 10pm...there was NOBODY around. This guy didn't actually pull me over right there...he radio'd ahead to the gate (there's only one gate open that late at night) with a description of my car, and they stopped me there as I was trying to leave.

-got stopped at the gate another time leaving base because some dude in a silver Evo had rolled through the gate with his stereo blasting earlier that afternoon, and blew off the MP when he told him to turn it down. It wasn't me, though, although I don't think they believed me.

other OFF base incidents:

-speeding on the interstate on the way home from seattle late one night. got paced, although I would've disputed it had he written me a ticket, because he was a LONG way behind me when he paced me. Couldn't have been that accurate.

-50 or 55 in a 40; rolled through a stop sign.

-tonight was 48 in a 35 (speed limit had just changed about 200 yds earlier); turned with using my turn signal (apparently that's illegal up here).

1. I've never said anything about different speed limits for men and women. That's retarded. I'd like to see generally higher speed limits, and I'd like to see a tiered licensing system that allows more leniency for skilled (to include possessing good judgement) drivers in/on high performance vehicles. (now in reality, most of your skilled, high performance drivers with high performance vehicles would be men...there just aren't as many women who are into cars like that and into learning how to operate a car as more than a commuting tool.)

2. My bad, it really wasn't 7 or 8 times. Now that I count them up, I see that it's actually 9.

3. I didn't get tickets (or even warning tickets) on ANY of these occassions.

4. There's nothing pathetic about getting a speeding ticket...it's just a supplemental highway usage tax (you have to pay to use public roads...and you have to pay more to use them faster.)

Quote :

haha, I've probably been pulled over 60-70 times. There's a country sherriff in Durham who's pulled me 3 times, and an RPD cop who's pulled me twice (didn't get tickets on any of those occassions, either).

I think i've had 1 or 2 speeding tickets and a ticket for illegal right on red. I think I got all of them dismissed, reduced to a city code violation, or reduced to 9 over.

I do, but you aren't supposed to use it on base (usually I just leave it off on base, because I generally don't speed there anyway). The rest of the times have been when I've left base and forgotten to turn it back on (and the one time on base that I was pulled for speeding was only 5 over. It's not like ANYONE will actually give you a ticket for just that, anyway). The exception was the instance where I got paced, but I would've fought that tooth and nail, because he did a bullshit pacing job.

short answer: V1 has worked great when I've used it properly.

nah, I have all savings and investments automatically drafted every payday...I treat them just like bills. I'll cut money from recreation and stuff before I cut money from investing. Also, when I have extra money, I don't generally invest it...I have fun with it.

^^ yes

i've never actually been ticketed by an MP, though. They'll pull you over for damn near anything, but unless you're acting like a jackoff, my experience is that they'll let you go. There are a few on power trips, but by and large, they're good guys. I treat them with respect, and so far, they've generally returned the favor.

Yes, yes, you have. I'll go ahead and aplogize now for not logging it the moment you posted it, but yes, you did. And don't pretend like you didn't or like you haven't made plenty of jokes about it to your military buddies that you like to fake better than because you're an officer.

Overweight? Emotional problems? Lack of ability to reason? Feeling like such a victim of life that you find yourself dreaming up transgressions where there weren't any? Choking on jealousy, and going nowhere in life at a breakneck pace? I know what'll make you feel better--you can call me "trash" because I found myself in a statistically unlikely predicament (even though I've done a pretty outstanding job, given the limitations of the situation).

and she's doing really well...just turned 1, taking a few steps, talking a little...talked to her earlier tonight, actually.

and if i did say that, it would've been clearly in jest, but you were surely too dense and/or too hypersensitive to catch that. but i don't think i said that at all.

Please share more about how you're better than me.

That's right. I just feel so bad about myself that I can't help but try to bring you down.

I'd like to hear more about how responsible you are in your investments, as well.

And it's hilarious that you're still going with that "statistically unlikely predicament" bullshit.

"She was on birth control, and I used condoms, and she still got pregnant!!! (cue jokes about how strong and manly my sperm is)" Two completely fertile parties who aren't using birth control only have an eight percent chance of pregnancy when they have sex, by the way...so your excuse isn't fooling anyone...

Anyway, every other time some dude posted about his sexual escapades, you made a point of alluding to your wild man ways and all the chicks you'd done it with, but then condescendingly added that you were over that, too mature, making solid investments, selling your cars... And then, whaddayouknow, Mr. Responsibility has an unplanned baby. Of course, you shared all the details about how you were stepping up and being a real man about it...but you've never once acknowledge what posing piece of shit you are.

jesus, i see that "sense of humor" isn't one of your strong suits, either

Quote :
"but then condescendingly added that you were over that, too mature,"

i'm neither completely over my wild ways (although i have toned it down quite a bit), nor ever condescending towards anyone who wants to party like a rockstar (unless you are an idiot about it). In fact, I encourage it--I'll just add now to be careful, because I've gotten myself in a few jams and close calls by not recognizing that i'm not immune to all odds. (and I by no means mean just sexually...i've done an above average amount of slutting around, i'm sure, but that's definitely not really where I've tempted the odds--it's just one place where the odds bit me on at least a couple of occassions).

but by all that, i don't mean to imply that i have any regrets regarding my daughter. some of the stuff stemming from the pregnancy has been hands-down the most fucked up and difficult stuff I've ever had to deal with (i mean, like, by an order of magnitude or two), but my daughter makes it all worthwhile, and I'm sure I'll only enjoy her more as she grows. I'm not saying to do it like I did, but if your kid isn't the brightest spot in your life, you must not be doing something right.

so anyway, back on topic.

part of me wants to get out of the fast car business until I get back to NC, because this place is overflowing with cops who also happen to have absolutely nothing to do, because jaywalking is probably about the worst thing that regularly happens on the island. they are everywhere, they all use instant-on radar, and they will pull you over for anything. i'm afraid my luck can't keep holding out, and that eventually i'm likely to get really nailed.

I'm not that worried about the ticket and resultant insurance hit--it's just the price of doing business, and for a couple hundred bucks, a lawyer can usually make it go away or make it hurt a whole lot less...but job-wise, it wouldn't be good to get taken downtown in the back of the cruiser, even if it was just traffic related. not likely, but more likely here than anywhere else i've seen.

the other part of me sees way more twisty roads than anywhere i've ever lived, and a desire not to let the Man win. (that, and I already tried getting a grown-up car--a 330ci--and that lasted about 3 months). if i do it this time, it'll just be a cheap 4x4 to go skiing with. if you piss anyone off by hauling ass there, you just get kicked off the mountain.

^^^ that's what i've noticed--once every few months, you seem to go raving mad about something...either with rabidly breaking my balls for no apparent reason, or some crazy rant in a Soap Box thread, or something...

i've always thought of you as a regular person who gets some wires crossed, goes fucking nuts, and howls at the moon about once every couple of months

once i figured that out, i stopped ripping into you in the soap box threads and just ignored you during bouts of temporary insanity

and i'm not really one to habitually and recreationally talk shit, but you know i can't let the sort of bullshit in this thread slide

If you have any experience with:

DMV
Graduated Income Tax
Driving

you can probably imagine why a tiered license system would be a terrible idea.
