So, I am working tonight, and we just got a new widescreen monitor- yay! However, we have Windows XP pro, and I cannot figure out how to change the display ratio so that everything isn't stretched out... any suggestions?

Go into your display properties, then system tab ... there is a slider to change the resolution. Find one that works for you. Generally you should select the native resolution of the LCD.

I've done that- but all the available choices are different versions of the same ratio (4:3 I think)... I need to change the screen resolution to a ratio of 16:9.

install the drivers for your monitor. It should be on a cd that came in the box. Odds are you need 1680x1050.

Also click "Settings" and uncheck "Hide modes that my monitor cannot display."

You should always use the native resolution your monitor suggests. (In LCD land anywho)

are you certain that your video adapterwill support that rsolution?

^^ why? if it works, it works...right? my 21" has a native res of 1440x900, but i can run it higher and it looks fine...no stretch, no scrunch, no blur, no jagged edges

you have a 21" LCD with a 1440x900 native resolution? wtf kind of cheap POS is that?

^^ You can't run higher than the native...if you somehow have a monitor that allows it, it's down-converting the image anyway

it will run it at the higher resolution without scaling it at all. It just won't have the entire screen on it at once, and you move your mouse to the edge of the screen to scroll around.
