There's a bunch of general health questions that are taken from the stuff in the textbook/spiral bound POS you had to buy.If you read/know the material in that little book, you're fine.

It seems like this is a question you would ask your instructor, as it most likely varies. In my fitness walking class, our instructor gave us a "practice quiz" and the questions came directly from that.

My class had it as a take home exam, most all the questions were out of the little booklet required for the class.

You are a senior in ME and you are worried about this midterm? Aren't there bigger fires to put out? Are you taking this for a grade?

When I had it last semester, everyone seemed pretty surprised by the level of detail. She made it sound like it was going to be really easy, but there was a lot of particular stuff straight out of the book. Then for the final, she gave us ~5 pages of typed info she wanted us to come to her office and copy, but then probably half the questions were the same as the midterm.

Fitness walking? Just curious... how much distance does the class work itself up to by the end of the semester? You only have about an hour, so it couldn't be that much. Or is that what the class is even about? I have no idea.

For the final exam you have to walk a mile and you're graded on time. It's actually kinda hard to get an A. We did it on the indoor track and me and this other guy ran when we were on the side our teacher wasn't on and still got like an A-.

Wow. So you have to walk fast enough... but not run. Why bother keeping up a walking facade at that point? What's the mile time for speed walking?

The record for the fastest men's indoor 5,000 m walk is held by Russia's Mikhail Shchennikov, with a time of 18 min. 7.08 sec. recorded in Moscow, Russia, on February 14, 1995.

^^When I took it, I think the mile was like 9:30-10 for an A and the two mile was like 20-20:30. The crunch and push-up requirements were relatively challenging for an A, too.

^^thanks. That info led me to:

I am in fitness walking right now and the point of it is to improve your form so that you CAN walk fast enough to a) get your heart rate into a high cardio range 190-200ish. and b) to have another option other than running/jogging for doing cardiovascular exercise. If you rather run, then go take run conditioning. If you rather do aerobics, go take aerobics. This class is to learn something new if you want to add some variety to your workout. Its actually a very enjoyable form of exercise. As for the timing and grading. For males 10 min 30 seconds is around an A+ for 1mile walk. For females, about 11 minutes will earn you an A+ on the mile walk. There is also a 2 mile walk for which the one mile times are about double to earn an A+.As with anything else, your grade is a reflection on how much energy you put into the course. If you work hard its more than feasible to earn an A without cheating as some of these previous posters have done.
