If the firm no longer provided "pet health insurance" then I'd have to think about leaving.

posting on tww.i think the lax computer monitoring is a great benefit. I mean its not like i'm looking at porn or something I shouldn't, but not having to worry about surfing is nice.but yeah, the whole medical etc etc is nice.
10/2/2007 2:04:41 PM
do some jobs have better benefits than other jobs or are most jobs pretty much the same when it comes to benefits?
10/2/2007 2:05:41 PM
some jobs have great benefits...some don't have any.
10/2/2007 2:07:57 PM
Benefits have had a WIDE range in the 3 jobs I've held since graduating from NCSU. I'm difinitely in the best situation now (of the 3) - very little out-of-pocket expenses and lots of savings. EVEN MY DOG LISA IS COVERED[Edited on October 2, 2007 at 2:08 PM. Reason : ]

You could just look up affirmative action - but i'll just answer for you. No, not just black people. It's supposed to cover any socioeconomic group that has been underpriviledged in the past.[Edited on October 2, 2007 at 2:12 PM. Reason : minorities and women]
10/2/2007 2:11:50 PM
but isnt that going against the civil rights act of 1964?
10/2/2007 2:15:42 PM
Kinda like how the handgun ban in DC goes against the second amendment.
10/2/2007 2:18:35 PM
el oh el

It doesn't say you can't hire people. It says you can't not hire people.(Though by hiring one person, you are not hiring someone else ...)[Edited on October 2, 2007 at 2:21 PM. Reason : .]
10/2/2007 2:20:46 PM
DNL, affirmative action also deals with the disabled - so maybe you may have a case on the people who don't hire you due to the overwhelming visual proof that you have 21st chromosome triplets in your DNA code.It was meant to level out a playing field that was VERY uneven.
10/2/2007 2:26:17 PM
civil rights act of 1964- "this law makes it unlawful for employers to hire, to refuse to hire, to discharge, or to discriminate in employment practicies against anyone because of:racecolorreligionsexnational origindisability"i thought affirmative action was when you hired black folks(or women and minorities) because they are not in the workplace a lot, but that sounds like its going against the civil rights act
10/2/2007 2:31:41 PM

10/2/2007 2:48:28 PM

10/2/2007 2:59:03 PM
thats pretty sweet terpball. I get 3% match 401k, and health ins.
10/2/2007 3:00:52 PM
My job in Charlotte had OK benefits, but this new place just goes the extra mile.No way in hell was EVIL BANK gonna give me any VPI benefits, or profitshare, and their FSA options sucked ass.
10/2/2007 3:06:35 PM
when i worked for state government, i thought my benefits sucked. i had to pay $80 a month for my medical (i know that isn't bad but i still wasn't into it) and they also took money out for the state pension fund that i never was going to benefit from because i was never going to stay there that long. when i quit they refunded only a portion of that money back.with my new job, i don't have to contribute money to any insurance, and they match 401(k).
10/2/2007 3:11:51 PM
fuck mcdonalds...i'm shooting for cicis
10/2/2007 3:14:35 PM
I opted out of the 401K and have them invest my money directly in these bonds. In case I need the $$ bad enough for something I can just sell the bonds rather than have to pay a heafty penalty. I know that doesn't sound right to some people, but I don't care, it's working out great for me. I'll start contributing to a 401K after my salary increases some, of after law school.
10/2/2007 3:16:42 PM
i gave up a higher hourly pay + pretty much as much overtime as i wanted for state benefits<3 benefits
10/2/2007 3:16:51 PM
blech. state benefits blow.
10/2/2007 3:19:09 PM
I'd quit if I didn't have 2523432 vacation days or if the time I had to work was set in stone.I wouldn't quit if I wasn't offered insurance/401K matching, but I'd def need a higher salary.
10/2/2007 3:21:33 PM
10/2/2007 3:25:43 PM
No health insurance = deal breaker. No 401k match or profit sharing or something else = deal breaker. No decent vacation/holiday allotment = deal breaker. No Flexible Spending Account = probable deal breaker. Now there are plenty of perks that I could get used to. When I worked at Merrill Lynch in NYC they would buy dinner for people working late. Stuck at your desk at 6:30pm? Order $30 in sushi and expense it. I guess as long as you are billing hours they are happy. My current job gives $1500 a year in tuition reimbursement and up to $600 towards gym membership for me or my family which is pretty decent. -- Dave
