Had a stretched nerve in my right elbow; nerve had moved up to the outside of joint instead of under it or whatever, aka it felt like I was hitting my funny bone every time I bent my elbow all the way. Took ~3-4 months to just fix itself. Had to stop doing any sort of tricep extension excercise for those months.

My father has had a similar problem. He treated it by doing weekly outpatient physical therapy with a very qualified chiropractor specializing in sports medicine. I say very qualified because nowadays, your average chiropractor is a homeopathic quack (no offense anyone) who rejects western medicine in favor of ancient Chinese herbs and "heals from within." Find yourself a highly recommended chiropractor for "sports" injuries. Make sure they don't practice naturopathic medicine or any of that silliness.

i once had a nurse strike a nerve in my arm while drawing blood. it was very painful and took about 6 weeks to heal. it hurt any time i used my arm. unfortunatly most nerve damage takes time to heal and there is not much as far as treatment. in my case the doctor basically told me that the nerve had to repair it self and regrow and that nerves regrow extremly slowly. if i had to describe the pain i would say it was an accute burning pain.

I messed up a nerve in my elbow playing h.s. baseball, a week before heading off to Marine boot camp. I still don't know what exactly I did to it, but it didn't bend in any funny way, it was just a very hard collision and got banged up badly. The doctors I saw in that week couldn't figure it out, so I went to boot camp being unable to do a pull-up or push-up without screaming. Before the injury, I could get a perfect score on the PFT (physical fitness test), but the whole time there I never did above the minimum, and was in agonizing pain the whole 13 weeks. If I had waited for it to heal, I'd have been stuck on Parris Island potentially for months, and I just wanted to get it over with.Maybe I was stupid and hurt it worse, but over the last 5 years the pain slowly started to go away, and is now almost completely gone. Though, it still hurts every now and then.Moral of the story: If at all possible, give it serious rest and time to heal at first, any more damage you do could be very long-lasting.

well friday at work i suddenly lost the use of my left hand for about 2 seconds... freaked me out but i was so busy with my 2 patients that i didnt have time to be freaked out.saturday rolls around and i dont notice any problemsyesterday afternoon i would find that my pinky and ring finger would go numb and become sluggish when i was doing various tasks like spiking IV bags and typing etc.fortunately for me i work on a neurology floor so i asked the resident on call about it...every bad habit that leads to ulnar nerve compression... i have them ALLand i work in a profession where i need the use of both of my handsand fyi... sleeping with both arms straight... sux

I had ulnar nerve RSI from fencing and probably computer posture / sleep etc. I played on for about 3 or 4 months but it really affected my performance (hard to hold a foil when half your hand is numb.) Doctor told me if I stopped, it would go away. I did, it did. I tried to take it up again a few years later, it came back. At some point they threatened to do the nerve-conduction tests, but I didn't go for that.It took a few months after I stopped the offending movements, but at some point it just faded and went away. I think I wore a wrist brace when it was at its worst, but that was more of a reminder that I needed to be careful than something that would actually help.

never elbow...but my back is all fucked up. When someone touches my upper back I 'feel' it in a different spot. It was really freaky at first but got used to it. It is annoying as hell though.

i just hope i dont end up with ulnar nerve entrapment i dont want to end up with claw fingers and a useless left hand
10/1/2007 11:32:08 PM
they won't let you end up with claw fingers. they can do an easy surgery to remove the nerve from the tunnel in your elbow where it is trapped. i've been through all of this myself, and yes it does suck to sleep with your arms straight. and nerve conduction studies aren't as terrible as they sound. anyhow, i hope things get better soon.

10/2/2007 11:03:09 PM
chiropractor FTW
10/2/2007 11:11:09 PM
so went to the hand surgeon today....we have to figure out if it is cubital tunnel syndrome or some sort of C-spine compression.funso bright and early monday morning i have to have a nerve stimulation testi hear those are just "special" /sarcasm
10/17/2007 11:05:10 AM
^ it really isn't as terrible as it sounds. Its uncomfortable, but nothing more. I bet you will be surprised how not bad it is. which hand surgeon are you seeing? i saw dr terry messer at raleigh hand center... he's good if you are looking for someone. what made them decide it wasn't in your elbow? i too am actually not convinced (nor is my doc) that my problem is in my elbow. i think mine is up at the shoulder or in the neck... we aren't sure. i hope you find what is the problem with yours and that there is an easy fix. good luckskip

i work for Duke, so my insurance only covers the duke hand surgeons. I am seeing David Ruchit could be my neck because BOTH ulnar nerves are inflamedalso he tapped on the nerve in my neck and i felt a "zing" in my fingers plus the god awful parasthesia in my right hand that wont go away.
10/17/2007 10:41:08 PM
I think I have this same problem in my leg. From my hip to my foot, there's a shooting pain feeling in it if I stand for too long. My leg will go numb and sometimes I can't move it, and it'll be THROBBING. I haven't ever had this much pain in my life. Dunno what it is!
10/18/2007 10:58:39 AM
^ does it run down the back of your leg and into the bottom of your foot? it may be sciatica. skip
10/18/2007 6:06:22 PM
finally found out whats causing my numbness.... only took 3 doctors appointmentsone EMG and on nerve conduction studyhttp://tinyurl.com/yvquu3

I had a stinger when i was playing football. I got hit in the elbow by a RB's facemask... the sensation was like my arm was being held in a fire ad eventually subsided to numbness/tingling in my 4th & 5th fingers and side of my hand. It came back in about 2 weeks.
11/11/2007 4:08:41 PM
haha get this, ive been diagnosed with the restless leg syndrome.you'll never guess (well maybe some of you doctors will) what they try to prescribe to treat it. ive decided to skip the rx route and just live with the pain that i never noticed.
