fuck 2007

renteria was maybe our most valuable offensive player, but escobar can provide better than replacement level offense and probably has a better glove at this point

andruw might sign a one year contract but a long-term deal from the braves is impossible, hopefully he's gone

with renteria as trade bait and/or the extra cash from andruw's departure, we have to go after a #2/#3 type starter. the offense is there, the bullpen has finally come around, but smoltz and hudson can't do it all

let's play guess the opening day roster

C mccann
1b tex
2b johnson
3b chipper
ss escobar
lf diaz
cf francoeur
rf probabaly gregor blanco or brandon jones

bench: anyone not named pete orr, hopefully brent lillibridge gets a spot

sp smoltz
sp hudson
sp (john garland)
sp hampton (until sometime around may 10 when his arm falls off)
sp james

bullpen: villarreal, moylan, yates, paronto, gonzalez, devine, soriano

go braves

(and, until monday, go phillies)

I think Andruw signs the one year deal. We have Tex back for a full year. Can Chipper make it through a full season without 30 days on the DL? Can we find a solid #3 SP? Will Hampton require season ending surgery before the season starts? Our window is closing FAST if we're going to win with Smoltz, Chipper and Cox again.

I made some corrections/predictions in bold:

let's play guess the opening day roster

C mccann
1b tex
2b johnson
3b chipper
ss escobar
lf diaz
cf Mike Cameron
rf francoeur

bench: anyone not named pete orr, hopefully brent lillibridge gets a spot

sp smoltz
sp hudson
sp (john garland)
sp hampton (until sometime around may 10 when his arm falls off)
sp james

bullpen: villarreal, moylan, yates, paronto, gonzalez, devine, soriano,Mahay, and Ascencio or Acosta should make the pen. I think Paronto is already gone and Yates should be shot.

go braves

So how much would it cost to sign Cameron for? Say a 2 year deal...

for what it's worth, andruw has already said he will NOT sign a 1-year deal with Atlanta. He's going into free agency.

Quote :
"David O'Brien, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports Atlanta Braves OF Andruw Jones will not accept a one-year deal when he becomes a free agent this offseason, according to his agent Scott Boras. Jones will also not accept a lower salary to stay with the Braves next season."

Boras is such a bitch.

No way Andruw gets more than $15 million a year after this disaster he called a season. If he does, I will

I fucking hate Scott Boras. His bullshit line "The Braves are making millions in profits" as a reason that Andruw deserves $20 million a year is a joke. If the Braves are making profits, it's inspite of Andruw's horrible play. If he had just hit .250 this year and even .225 with RISP, the Braves would be in the playoffs (with more ticket revenue too).

No Andruw for 2008.

^ Old news

TBS barely showed any games this year anyway. It's been hard getting used to not being able to see the Braves 120+ times a year, but TBS slowly worked the Braves out of their schedule the past few years and now AOL has given Braves fans one more "Fuck You" by taking them completely off TBS.

I'd like to burn down the corporate offices of AOL-Time Warner.

A couple of you douche bags were arguing me and some others that Andruw should have been MVP over Pujols a few years back.

^^ Yeah because how he played in 2007 had a hell of a lot to do with how he played in 2005

Andruw basically carried the Braves to the playoffs in 2005. Had he hit better with RISP that year, he would have won the award over Pujols. Obviously Andruw sucked huge this year, but that does not take anything away from what he accomplished in 2005.

random factoid:

the braves all time franchise record is 9696-9717, 21 games under .500

92 wins next year and we're over the hump!

the mets only need 320 wins next year to break .500!

First I've heard of this.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7322496?MSNHPHMA

The Braves have a major announcement scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.

It's expected that longtime GM John Schuerholz is stepping down and being replaced by his assistant, Frank Wren.

Schuerholz took over as GM in 1990 and the team won 14 straight division titles before struggling the past two seasons.

Let us remember...

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=LCSmoments/071008

We got the number one moment in LCS history...

Quote :
"1. Francisco Cabrera's single, Game 7, 1992 (Braves vs. Pirates): The most ultimate do-or-die situation in baseball history. The little-used Cabrera (only 10 at-bats in the regular season) pinch-hit with two outs, the bases loaded and Atlanta trailing 2-1. His single to left off Stan Belinda scored David Justice and the sloth-footed Sid Bream, who just beat the throw from Barry Bonds, capping the Braves' three-run rally. For the Pirates, it was the hit that destroyed a franchise: It was their third straight defeat in the NLCS and they haven't finished above .500 since."

^ that's good news. he'll still be involved in all the major decisions. Hopefully Wren has learned from Schuerholz on how to trade shit for gold at the trading deadline (I'm not necessarily talking about the Tex trade since that trade can't be fully evaluated for a few years).

word on the street is that schuerholz is preparing to take over as commissioner when selig retires in 2009, this is just the first step in that process

i have no idea if that's even remotely true, though

...posted by Matthew Cerrone...

The Tigers have acquired SS Edgar Renteria from the Braves in exchange for RHP Jair Jurrjens and OF Gorkys Hernandez.

…clearly this is to cut salary, which would suggest a follow-up move will be made at some point during the off-season, such as signing a guy like free-agent OF Torii Hunter, or freeing up money to bring on Tom Glavine…

Renteria has one year and $9 million left on his current contract, which also contains a club option for 2009.

…there has been increased buzz from atlanta that the Braves could look to trade a player like Kelly Johnson to net a replacement for Andruw Jones, as well…either way, the Braves just freed up a good chunk of change, which is most likely targeted for some one…

For more on Jurrjens and Hernandez, and other thoughts on the trade, check out Joe Hamrahi at Baseball Digest Daily.

^^ I hate that trade. Stop making deal with the fucking Tigers - that Ledezma shit was a huge rip off.

I was hoping Renteria would have brought a #3 type starting pitcher, but I doubt anyone is dealing SP.

u cant Criticize this trade right now. We have escobar who is more than qualified to play the ss position and has a lot of talent far as speed and hitting. These are two highly touted prospects in positons in which we are weak in. I wish we could have traded him for a Good 3 sp but their are not that many that are for sale. THis is a good move to free up the cap and hopefully we will sign glavin for a good price and maybe land mike cameron or tori hunter

Jair Jurrjens has a ton of potential and will be your #3 by the end of next season. I am upset the tigers traded him, but we have tons of young pitching

I've read a few places we could be stockpiling prospects to turn around and make a deal for another starting pitcher. It would have to be a team that is not in need of a SS. You know Billy Beane is always looking to trade a starting pitcher since it seems they come out of the woodwork in Oakland.

Hate to see Renteria go.
