Sounds like shit is going down in Myanmar.http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/09/27/myanmar.protests/index.html#cnnSTCTextWe need to suit up and prepare for war. We know how much Bush likes democracy and freedom so surely we will want to invade to help the people in Myanmar like how invaded Iraq to help free the Iraqis from tyranny.
9/28/2007 1:03:20 PM
you say that jokingly, but i'm with you. this is one time where regime change is warranted.
9/28/2007 1:07:48 PM
^^

An invasion probably isn't necessary. Even the mongoloid circle-jerkers at the CIA could handle that coup under current conditions. Throw around a little money in the right places and at the very least we could replace the bloodthirsty junta with at least a regular dictator who won't pull shit like:
9/28/2007 1:25:04 PM
china is taking the darfur approach to this place
9/28/2007 1:28:25 PM
too bad they have nothing of value to the average US citizenif they cant produce unleaded gas, at least make unleaded toys, then we'd care
9/28/2007 1:34:31 PM
cheers to that
9/28/2007 2:02:32 PM
Internet access cut off in Myanmar...http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298400,00.htmlI know a lot of tdubbers who would be suited up and ready for anarchy if that happened here.
9/28/2007 2:40:35 PM
^ i would hope all americans would be suited up if that happened here ^i don't kid myself about the 2nd amendment, but it could certainly help the free-burma movement right about now
9/28/2007 6:19:48 PM
Here is a golden opportunity to stay out of the fray.If some private citizens want to go over there and fight on the side of freedom, more power to them. But the US gov't should keep its hands off...and that means you Mr. CIA.
9/29/2007 12:13:02 AM
See, this is my problem with libertarianismIt requires us to say, "Oh, well, whatever" when horrible abuses of the basic human condition are being perpetrated by even the weakest of governments, which we could easily toppleFuck that, I'd rather have oppressive speed limits and teen drinking laws than permit the god damned burmese junta to keep running things
9/29/2007 2:15:51 AM
Why is it that only the CIA is capable of putting money to the right people to help a coup? We are Americans, we are filthy rich compared to these countries. Grumpy, go start your own charity, buy some guns, raise some cash, and overthrow the bad people.
9/29/2007 9:22:05 AM
fox news has an AP report up about mutinies in several army units. conflicting reports about whether these units simply refused to leave their barracks or are actively defending the protesters from other army units. other reports of fierce gunfire give credence to the latter though, since i doubt the monks are heavily armed.
9/29/2007 9:46:26 AM
so we totally can't let someone grow some balls and do something about it for themselves.
9/29/2007 10:11:47 AM
^you mean like us a couple hundred years ago when even armies only had basic weapons available?I'm sure its even easier nowadays to match firepower - homemade vs. professional military oh wait, even when it was only muskets and cannons we needed help... disregard
9/29/2007 11:10:37 AM
No countries in modern times through largely domestic efforts have gained independence or overthrown a government
9/29/2007 11:21:45 AM
^ Wait, I thought quite a few have. India didn't gain independence through non-domestic efforts, or maybe you mean something different by that?
9/29/2007 11:17:20 PM
i agree with ^^ more than i agree with ^ just cause the times have changed and its not the same situation
9/29/2007 11:20:47 PM
MISSION OF BURMA!
9/29/2007 11:30:22 PM
Plus they are Buddhists, so we must go there and convert them into God-fearing Christians to save their souls from hell!!1
9/30/2007 1:05:45 AM
I am annoyed with two aspects of this wrt the US:1) the use of the term "Myanamar" in any context that isn't pure parody. It's like calling China "Mao-land."2) the recent "freezing of assets" we undertook in response. Why weren't the generals' assets frozen already? What, they weren't just as despotic three weeks ago?
9/30/2007 1:42:31 AM
You can't just run around freezing the assets of despots or in the future despots will find somewhere else to stash all the money they are stealing. I like today's system; we get to freeze despotic assets when they fuck up, and these Burmese types have really fucked up. That said, I would prefer if they never froze anyones assets barring the conviction for a U.S. or international crime.
