Does anyone know of a source for plastic barrels? (Like the blue ones used for water/liquid storage)I have heard people comment about them being at certain surplus places but I am not sure where locally.

just to clarify for the audience, there is no possibility of you buying these online?

contact some feed/farmers supply places in the goldsboro area. surplus pickle barrels from mount olive are cheap and good. I'm in southeastern nc and they go for about 10 dollars each here and have good screw on lids with rubber seals. people put spigots on them and get big bucks for them as rain barrels. These barrels are very strong. I use them to keep chicken feed in so the rats don't get it.

where can i get the ones they used in star trek?the ones that held radioactive stuff?

What are you using them for? There's a guy up off Louisburg Rd that has a shitton, but they've all held some sort of various chemical. Cleaning agents, floor wax - that kind of stuff. He cleans them out, and they make good rain barrels.

One tip if you use them to catch rain water:If you get the ones that have a screw on lid, use some window screen that you can get from Lowes/Home Depot to keep mosquitoes out of the water. Just cut a piece of screen to size and place in between the lid and the barrel top.

i dunno how you can charge $100+ for a rain barrel that costs $10 plus $10 in parts.?

The guy I mentioned sold unmodified barrels for $15, but once he put a screen, overflow, and spigot on, charged $55

There are dozens of these sitting in the dumpster area in the courtyard between Brooks hall and Kamphoefner. We got them from the State Surplus on Chapel Hill Rd. but I'm pretty sure they are all gone now.I'm sure you could go just grab a couple, we just used them for halloween bash decorations a couple of years ago.
