^ check to see if the head gasket has been replaced or if the previous owner has a certificate to get it replaced by the dealer...some will last a lot longer than others, but from what I've read, all will fail at some time if not replaced

yeah fuck the 3.slow. I'm not sure what other engines came in it, but I'd avoid that one for sure. depending on the price it might be worth it, but only if its really cheap...I might try to find a 4cyl. pickup in the 89 to 95 range first though. or a taco.
