Is there any way to rig the cigarette lighter in a car so that it always has power, even when the car is off?I drive a 2004 Mazda 6 and when the car is turned off, neither cigarette lighter has power. I need for at least one of these lighters (preferably the one in the dash, not the center console) to maintain power at all times so that things I have plugged in will charge when the car is off. Is there any way to rig this?

you could nig rig the fuse box with a jumper wire in the right place

would it be safe to do so, or am i looking at a fire or electrocution hazard?

run a wire from the battery, it isn't complicated

should be ok if you go from the fused side of the fuse

ok, i'm sure this is really simple, but i have no idea how to do it. how do i know what kind of wire to use, the path along which to run the wire, which part of the fuse box to connect it to, etc.?

^^ i already know how to use a multimeter. and no, it's not rocket science, it's car science. ^ my boyfriend said he'd do it for me. turns out he already knew how to do this. i should have asked him first.]

ok, so i have an '05 audi, and the 12V socket always leaves the power running, which is annoying when having to turn the radar detector on and off everytime i start and turn off the car. do you think it is hard to do the opposite? or is it better jus to suck it up and reach over to turn the radar on and off

I have to take my detector down anyway because the temperature change of the glass from night/day usually makes it fall down.

^^still easyTo do it *properly*, you'd use a relay as opposed to just tapping into a +12V IGN ON source. but most people would just rig it[Edited on September 19, 2007 at 9:04 AM. Reason : personally I'd use ACC(essories) ON and not IGN ON]
