http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20742710/page/2/Does anyone else think that LA has gone a little too far overboard in declaring a state of emergency every time the wind blows the wrong way in the gulf. Granted it is good that they are being proactive and learned a lesson after the disaster that occurred when Hurricane Katrina struck. Katrina though was a whole magnitude worse then Humberto a measly tropical storm w/ sustained winds of 60mph. Katrina was a Category 4 hurricane when it made landfall near New Orleans. The governor even declared a "State of Emergency" when Deen was tearing up the Carribean eventhough none of the model maps had the storm even coming close to Louisiana.

Practically every governor does this. It's a precondition for requesting most federal aid.

I agree that most do it when the hurricane landing in their state is imminent. But LA is doing it every time a hurricane glances in their direction.Classic knee-jerk overreaction. Kinda like the tailgating restrictions.

& the new airport regulations requiring people take their shoes off

^yeah and thats bullshit too. If someone had some flammable chemical soaked in their trousers, next we'll all have to take that off too.

The terrorists have won in my opinion. Their whole goal is to cause "terror" and force the target populace to change their ways. So far they have done a damn good job along with the terror mongering of the Bush admin

^ I didn't realize terrorists had built a hurricane machine.

^ not terrorists, it's the Chinese the Chinese have been using Soviet-era cloud-seeding technology to cause hurricanes here in the US.its true. there's a weatherman from North Dakota or Montana somewhere who has researched this.I'll see if I can find a link.

well maybe it's because they were decimated by a hurricane not too long ago. i'd probably be a little overly cautious too if i was in their position.

well, she did have to think about it for 24hrs before she did with Katrina...way too late, she should of done it way before landfall so the Feds could already be there, but she waited and waited and waited until it was too late.

they are just being too cautious now
