There is a white hazy residue on my mouse pad...when I flip my mouse over, I find the same white substance on the batteries (although in smaller amounts). Just today I heard a high pitched squeal that I swear "bubbled" a bit.I'm using a wireless Microsoft Intellimouse. I've had it for at least 3 years. This sound like leaking battery acid? I don't really want to touch it...and if so, should I just dispose of it (and how?) and get a new mouse?

Just change the batteries and clean off the acid with some steel wool or something.

steel wool...check! is this a problem with the particular batteries I had in the mouse or it is some sort of problem with the mouse itself?

More like batteries leaking battery acid inside a mouse.

I know its the battery that is leaking, but being that I'm not exactly sure why (its never happened before) I'm trying to understand if the mouse could have anything to do with it.

Just be glad it's not a leaking laptop battery. You'd loose your mind, eventually.

send the batteries and the mouse to the batt manuf. they'll pay you well.

^^^ Maybe I'm just tired, but I'm not sure what your metaphor is supposed to be saying exactly. I'm wearing sandals right now by the way, but they are on a little loose. Since you'd basically have to eat a leaking battery to actually suffer from great enough poisoning to actually cause brain damage, I was hoping it was pretty obvious I was kidding.[Edited on September 1, 2007 at 9:29 PM. Yeah, Joe I'm not sure what you are thinking...but the last time I checked, AA batteries hardly last 2 months, much less 3 years...duh...

^^ Don't go acting all english-major-like on me. Besides, you have to know when most people read they usually only notice the first and last letters and the context. It's why those kinds of mistakes are so common and so often ignored. It's also why most people can fluently read something like:

did i just read a justification for being stupid in school and not giving a toss about education?
