I have a '06 Grand prix and want to hookup a headphone jack to my headunit so I can plugin mp3 player. I have rca to headphone jack cable. Took off covering around my headunit, took out the headunit (I have monsoon audio system with 6disk in-dash). I was expecting to see at least 1 set of RCA inputs, but install all I see is the wire 2 wire harnesses going into the back of it.Can this be done easily? This has gotta be a pretty standard GM headunit, so install can't be specific to a grand prix. Has anyone done this on their GM car? thx in advance.

have you tried a pontiac message board? i think the first thing they'd tell you thought is that a headphone jack implies output and not input so if you googled that you'd probably come up with nothing - try possibly "aux input"the short answer though is that unless there is a satellite/auxillary port that could be plugged into and converted to RCA then you are out of luck unless you can put up with some sort of fm tuner solution - or you can always buy a better head unit

I use a FM Modulator (which sells for ~$18 here) that works great. It's a FM transmitter that hooks directly into your antenna, so unlike the cheap ones you can buy at wal-mart that are always staticy there is virtually no loss of sound quality beyond what FM radio normally is.just make sure that your antenna cables are the same size as the FM modulator, or buy adapters online. I had my car all torn apart and had to buy adapters that went from the factory (smaller) antenna size to the aftermarket size (larger) from circuit city that cost me more than the modulator itself [Edited on August 31, 2007 at 12:57 AM. the Monsoon is a painful system. it's another reason why manufacturer's shouldn't put specialized systems in stock cars. i would know because i've worked on one. forget ever buying regular speakers, and this is a heads up for future warning in the event you decided to buy new ones. they have a different ohmage than a majority of speakers available through normal retail stores, so just pay attention if you want new ones.there was no chance of RCA inputs. like OmarBadu said, you'll need an aftermarket head unit for that if you want them available in a simple, clean way. i've heard mixed reviews about the FM transmitters, but they're worth a shot if you don't want to buy a new head unit and you can't find a way to convert what's already there, which i doubt.[Edited on August 31, 2007 at 1:11 AM. ^That doesnt make sense. Essentially, he needs a Line IN converter....but I've never seen one of those.

I have been putting off buying a new head unit partially because my car has so much integration with the factory installed one. My car has heads up display that shows speed, radio station, xm station etc. Also have all the standard steering wheel controls. Anyways, I've done some research about companies trying to utilize these GM integration points with their aftermarket headunits - I have found nothing about monsoon systems. Fry - have you done any aftermarket installs into monsoon systems and gotten it to work with the GM integration features??
