I have one of those on my lunch break Thursday, with the same agency, different job....6 or 7 questions he said, 20 to 30 minutes....on the other line will be the Director of the place(i spoke with the associate director). Weird thing is I almost didnt apply because I didnt have some of the experience they were looking for, might still not get it, but oh well, havent had a interview in over 2 years(been employed, still am), so not stressing. I mainly applied because it said there were many openings. I would have to move to Washington(expensive as fuck) if they did offer me this job, but in the long wrong, might be better for career growth.

I guess he's better over the phone than he is on the internet.

That's pretty awesome man. I've had a few phone interviews and always do fairly well at them (considering the phone interviewer knows what they're doing). What's bad is when an interviewer has no phone or conversational skills at all and you completely dominate the interview without even trying at all.

Hmmm, I was supposed to have one yesterday, and they never called. Then I got a call back, and I'm still waiting today. And it just so happens this job is also in Northern Virginia...

Be careful man, maybe I'm just paranoid, but I see some warning signs...

- They hire you even though you don't fully meet the initial job description.
- They hire you based on a half-hour phone interview.
- They have a lot of openings.

^^ Just to counter: every job I've ever applied for, I didn't meet the "requirements."

Companies spew all sorts of wants & wishes knowing full well they'll settle for less. Happens every day.

'Grats again, good luck in the city.

^^^ He is still correct about the other stuff, though.

Hiring someone/taking a job without going to the place, meeting your coworkers, seeing what the work is like, seeing the area is completely foolish.

The company doesn't sound too competent if it doesn't care more about making sure employees are a good fit. They may even view the position as one where they can plug and play someone like parts of a machine, which is another red flag.

Also, no one is retiring in DC. People start in DC and retire in Raleigh or somewhere else cheap.

This is the way the gov works when it interviews(unless you are interviewing for a political position)

It is the Federal Gov, I have already talked to some of my future coworkers about places to rent. Most of my coworkers are soon to be retirees(baby boomers). You dont know what you are talking about when you say no one is retiring. All the Federal agencies are going to suffer through the baby boomers retiring the next 5 years. Doors that were slamed shut a few years ago are now open. Also, you must not keep up with the news either. Not just the Federal government, but private sector companies will be losing a lot of talent that next few years due to retirment, bad news for them, good news for new people.

This job is in DC...where a young person has so many opportunties(if you can get in). I started at my present position 3 years ago as temp(fed gov), then got benefits and retirement but still temp and now I have a perm/career position that I have been trying to get. I just have to leave my present position and go to DC for it, which I have no problem with. When I retire I probably will move to Raleigh.

let's be honest here, it's government work. You either need to have a pulse, or in some cases be a U.S. Citizen with a pulse.

Bobby, there you go again

I am happy and that is all that maters...I am look at the advancement opportunties which are there and will continue to be there due to the baby boomers retiring...heck, probably most of my new coworkers will be retiring within 10 years.

feds are having trouble with people retiring and no young'uns to take their place. not surprised they'd snap someone up, esp if its a contractor.

I was told Friday that there is not time for training, as in my first post, I didnt have the qualifications but figured I would apply anyways. My boss is production production production and has no patience for training.
