Who would you consider the true country music artists of the day. I mean modern day. But not the pop country stuff that is going on.

There is good stuff that is popular, its just that most popular stuff isn't good. I'd consider Brad Paisley and Alan Jackson both quality "popular" musicians. Anyway, he's not as prolific as he used to be, but I'd put Guy Clark in the real country category, along with Robert Earl Keen, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland and most other Texas / Red Dirt Country acts.Guy Clark:Obligatory:[Edited on August 20, 2007 at 7:31 AM. i have a hard time putting H.W. III and Ryan Adams into this category. Yes they have produced true country songs but their catalog isn't true country.george strait and willie fit perfectly.Josh Turner is a new face that fits the category too.

there is this band down here in SC that i hear about all the time called "The Bitterman". I need to check 'em out.

there is no way that Cross Canadian Ragweed is country. They will tell you they arent country if you go see a show.

to me, they fall in that gray area that some bands out there fall into . . . but, understandably, some bands refuse to self-label themselves and I support that. It doesn't change the fact that a lot of people will percieve them as "country". Ronnie Van Zant was big on moving Skynyrd away from the "Southern Rock" appelation but they were killed before he could really get that ball rolling.Still, CCR > Rascall Flatts
