If not longer. I have a feeling this thread is going to get locked unfortunately because I know there is already another thread, but I had a very specific and separate reason for making this second post. This thread is for all the people who DON’T listen to BTBAM, who probably would have never read the other thread because they either aren’t metal fans or aren’t BTBAM fans and have a preconceived notion of what that thread/CD are about. But the CD was so inspiring musically (moreso than any CD I can ever remember listening to the first time through) that I felt you all would be missing out from at least giving it one full listen. And because of that I urge all our open minded music fans on here (mainly the ones who normally aren’t into ‘this’ kind of stuff –vinyl, cif, spooky etc- to read on.)This album single-handedly takes what anyone expects from a metal/progressive metal CD and turns it upside down and inside out. Listening to this CD for the first time I hear influences from all the following artists in this disc: Pink Floyd, Danny Elfman, Queen, Muse, Tool, King Crimson, Dragonforce, Yes, Dream Theatre, Rush and more as well as full on sections of jazz, frontier western music, classic rock, arena rock, middle eastern music, animal noises, ridiculously beautiful ambient parts etc. All melted together seamlessly. In fact the album flows so seamlessly that the music never stops. There are technically 8 ‘tracks’ on this CD but the music flows continuously for basically all 65 minutes of this album never skipping a beat. The melodies on this CD are simply epic and I truly believe this is some of the best composed music I have heard in a LONGGGG time(ever heard), and this coming from a fellow music nut with a fairly critical ear.The first 3 tracks of the album have a lot of variety but I suppose are closer to what you sort of expect from BTBAM(ironically the 2nd track on the album is by far the most boring to me), but picking up from about 3:30 mins into the 4th track throughout the rest of the CD is where it really starts expanding infinitely and doesn’t look back, so please don’t get turned away by the beginning. I fully suggest taking a full hour out and just sitting down and trying to digest it all. And if you don’t like it, then im sorry for wasting your time.I came into this CD with higher expectations than I can ever remember having for an album and it still blew me away this much. Stayed up till 6:30 this morning listening to it.So without further ado, I give you Between the Buried and Me - “Colors” hxxp://sendspace.com/file/vx4rc0

metalcore is the worst genre of all timeno other music even comes close
8/19/2007 12:54:55 PM
nah i think indie kids are worsedownloading now...expecting big things
8/19/2007 12:57:01 PM
for 95% of the bands that play music under that genre yes(I cant stand most metalcore). However that comment means nothing since this cd is 100% the opposite of ANYTHING metalcore...unless you consider pink floyd, king crimson, and danny elfman metalcore [Edited on August 19, 2007 at 1:00 PM. 8/19/2007 12:57:34 PM
elfman is too metalcore for me.
8/19/2007 1:02:16 PM
this thread and this music is gay.
8/19/2007 1:13:49 PM
oh well, if it prompts one extra person to buy the CD that wouldnt have bought it before then its done its job.i just hate how so many people are so stand-offish on different kinds of music because of their preconceived notions on what its going to sound like and whether they like an album based on an artist's past work or genre, so i figured id make this.[Edited on August 19, 2007 at 1:28 PM. Let's get something straight, I have a very open mind musically dude. But comeon man, the guy is screaming fucking bloody murder, he sounds like a huge ass silverback ape whose bunch of banannas I made off with. I mean I can't understand how you ragin emo/metal/scream core people can even make out what he's saying and even find that harmonious. From a vocal melodic standpoint it's like someone having sloppy bean shits all over a canvas. Yes, I know it's music I know and I try to be open to it because screaming has it's uses absolutely...but not like that! And the whole music complexity thing, dude, its not any different than a lot of shit - that doesnt give it sole or even top rights in inspiring creativity. You want to hear creativity in music, signatures, and the like - go download some King Crimson. At least then you won't get the spit, angst, and mistaken childhood rage comin' at you like hotcakes through the headphones.
8/19/2007 1:31:06 PM
you want ppl to go buy the album, but provide a fully downloadable version?
8/19/2007 1:35:22 PM
actually im a huge king crimson fan and a musician and yes this is musically complex. its not the most complex thing ive ever heard but what i like about it is that its complex and good song writing from an enjoyable listening point of view combined which is where a lot of prog bands go wrong. ie dream theatre are some very talented musicians and id even venture to say im a fan. but i cant just sit down and listen to a dream theatre cd because while it is complex it often seems flat and lacking heart.he also only screams on a small percentage in this cd. there is a lot of singing and a ton of instrumental work. if youre listening to their old stuff as a comparison to this album it just wont work. im not saying everyone is going to like it because im sure there is some great music out there that i dont listen to just because it doesnt sit well with me personally-everyone is different, i just think the entire album is worth a listen.^i DL it and im buying it. maybe im in a minority tho [Edited on August 19, 2007 at 1:45 PM. lots of people don't like screaming in music and i don't blame them for it. i scream in a metal band and even i usually prefer to listen to clean vocals over screaming. but to a lot of people the vocals can totally turn them off to the entire sound, to the point where they have a hard time appreciating the music. so to those people, i wouldn't recommend btbam.
8/19/2007 1:56:07 PM
guitarwork is alright for me, but i agree the vocals are a bit much. ill stick to the human abstract for that style (they scream too, but its a mix with normal vocals).
8/19/2007 2:03:57 PM
meh im not a fan of The human abstract guitarwork :/ its so musically 'boxed in' the guys can shred but they need some more time to evolve beyond just playing standard scales and arpgeggios as fast as they can[Edited on August 19, 2007 at 2:08 PM. Reason : ]

^so does BTBAM, as ive stated he sings a lot on this cd. i can completely understand if people cant get past screaming a lot of times tho. i was mainly complimenting on the music throughout however

I gave it a shot, listened to at least half of every song, and, to me, it's completely unlistenable. I can't stand it. They're obviously very technically proficient, but I think the music and the singing are both largely unbearable.Oh well.
8/19/2007 7:54:58 PM
everyone should just respect the right for everyone to have their on tuned taste in music. I absolutely love BTBAM and the music they do. Even the cover album "The Anatomy Of" was wonderful. I know of 3 people, me included, that are completely stoked about the new album, and jamie giving us an early taste of it is just that much better. Thanks Jamie[Edited on August 19, 2007 at 8:24 PM. The best album I've heard in the past 5 years has got to be the Don Luke debut Bedroom Nonsense. Easily a defining moment that transcends all aspects of life. I've quit my job just so I can listen to this album on repeat. Fifty years from now Don Luke Outtakes will be more popular than those Beatles Anthologies. oh i forgot that i said i hadn't seen them live in my previous post...but it would still appear that you place them ahead of btbam based on talent...but then again, you also claimed that terror were "gods"

i'll give it a whirlnot sure i should've read spooky's post, though
8/20/2007 2:20:32 AM
.....ok i actually like several bands of this type of music so id be more inclined to like this album more than most people on tww, but i didnt really like it at alli listened to tracks 1-4 and then track 8 and nothing really stood out to me. there were way too many weird pauses, transitions, scale ups/downs...i am a big fan of the screaming to melodic voice transition which appeared in what i heard, but it just didnt sound that good to me. [Edited on August 20, 2007 at 2:39 AM. Reason : listened to track 5, still meh]

i personally don't like metalcore, but btbam are fucking amazing musicians. this album is most definitely worth the listen regardless of what kind of music you normally listen to.

I never heard BTBAM before, so I typed their name into youtube to get an idea of their music. The first video that popped up was for the song "Alaska".....I will never listen to that shit again. It just sounded like a bunch of fucking noise, almost as if two completely different songs were being played at the same time. Now I'm just in a bad mood, thanks[Edited on August 20, 2007 at 10:54 AM.
