is it duck® tapebecause if the duck® tape remnants are what are on the wall, you can slide newly pulled duck® tape (sticky side) along the unwanted remnants and it will collect it

then take some clear packing tape and press it firmly against the residue. remove packing tape and it'll pull the residue off with it.

roll it off with your fingertry acetone or if all else fails cut around it, pull the paper off the sheet rock, spackle, paint.

3m wax and adhesive remover is by far the best thing i've ever found for stuff like this

Put vaseline in the residue, wait a few hours (or overnight) and it will come right off. Be sure to clean all the vaseline off of the wall before trying to paint.
