I laugh at this honestly. If a pitcher throws at a guys head and bean's him with a fastball not as much attention is given. Or if a pitcher throws at a batter no one really goes to jail. Why not is my question a 95mph fastball can do alot of damage to someone. Anyones thoughts on this?

It can be considered an accident if someone is hit with a ball.It cannot be consider accidental when someone rushes the mound swinging a bat.

It isn't like the guy can just accidentally confuse the mound with first base while forgetting to drop the bat.[Edited on August 16, 2007 at 12:21 PM. Reason : .]

You really can't throw a fastball right at someone and make it look like a accident. A slider or off speed pitch yes those can get away from you real easy. However a fast ball right at a batter who previously homered off of you at his last at bat sounds like it was on purpose.

but if you were to study what types of pitches were thrown at batters "intentionally", I bet the result would come up many more off speed pitches than fastballs. Hell, Offerman was hit by a 70 mph slider in the lower leg.

^^ Pitcher did not hit him on purpose. Offerman got a first pitch slider for a strike and then the second pitch hit him and was also a slider. If the pitcher was going to intentionally hit Offerman, he would have beaned him on the first pitch of the at bat and would not have thrown a slider.
