microsoft should execute all the gui programmers.
8/14/2007 12:27:02 PM
I can't stand it either.
8/14/2007 12:27:51 PM
hate hate hateThe ribbon was a fantastic idea.

I am on the edge deciding between whether to invest in iWork '08 or wait for MS-Office 2008.Anyone got any output.
8/14/2007 1:16:13 PM
Go for iWork.so we dont have to hear you bitch and moan about a non-apple product.
8/14/2007 1:17:15 PM
ROFL
8/14/2007 1:17:42 PM
lunch?
8/14/2007 1:18:57 PM
Sure, let me check my iCal for open slots.I'll send you an iM.
8/14/2007 1:21:55 PM
^ using iChat? I've played with Office 2007, but still use 2003 so much at work that I haven't taken the time to get used to the ribbon.
8/14/2007 1:24:06 PM
I downloaded a beta I never used, and don't have a license for Office 2007.

8/14/2007 1:40:15 PM
The ribbon is wonderful once you're used to it. It saved me at least an hour on the last couple of NE lab writeups I had to do simply by making the process of making massive numbers of very similar graphs much more efficient. If only it ran well on my old-ass XP machine with it's 768MB of RAM... Ah well, at least the laptop handles it fine.
8/14/2007 1:47:40 PM
this is funny, most people i've talked to dislike it at first but a week or two later they love it.
8/14/2007 1:48:36 PM
I've been using it at both work and home for a while, since it came out really, and I think it sucks balls.
8/14/2007 2:01:39 PM
i hate how outlook handles pst filesfucking slow as balls on a 4200 rpm hdd
8/14/2007 2:02:40 PM
^ Maybe you can help me preach to people about how spending 150 bucks to "upgrade" their 160GB 7200 rpm drive to a 200GB 4200 rpm drive is retarded.
8/14/2007 2:05:33 PM
8/14/2007 2:06:13 PM
8/14/2007 2:57:22 PM
I've used it since beta ... you just need to get used to it, and it does allow you to work much more efficiently. Although, it doesn't work as smoothly on older machines (~4+ yrs old). So that can be a problem.
8/14/2007 5:09:05 PM
Only thing about it that word be worth it to me is the increase of Excel spreadsheets from:2^16 to 2^20 in max rows.
8/14/2007 6:59:51 PM
^ yeah, that part is by far the best improvement
8/14/2007 7:38:51 PM
you're joking right?
8/14/2007 8:44:33 PM
no
8/14/2007 8:52:25 PM
MS Office 2007 is FUCKING AWFUL.I quit using it out of frustration. It looks like they changed things just to change things.
8/14/2007 8:56:24 PM
it's called efficiency, take the time to learn it, in the end it'll be fasterit's funny that everyone's opinion is dislike but no one cares to explain why other than the fact that it moved the locations of commands around.
8/14/2007 9:06:53 PM
the fact is from an effiency point of view it is far superior. Take the time to get used to it and you will love it..and be more productive
8/14/2007 9:13:12 PM
I started using Excel 2007 because I was producing spreadsheets with 500k rows and well if you're not as painfully aware of this fact, 2003 can't support more than 65k rowsSo as far as handling raw data representing decomposed CDS index tranche positions for a multi-billion dollar hedge fund - I give it two thumbs up
8/14/2007 10:46:34 PM
only 500k rows? that's one big ass spreadsheet
8/15/2007 7:14:07 AM
YeahDo you not know how to use databases?
8/15/2007 9:12:21 AM
Databases are used for storing data, spreadsheets are used for calculations. It's entirely within reason to pull info from a database into a spreadsheet..
8/15/2007 10:42:53 AM
or, y'know, learn a simple programming or scripting language.
8/15/2007 10:52:54 AM
yea, i just keep everything in access..handles shit a hell of a lot better
8/15/2007 10:56:23 AM
they are switching to 2007 in 6-8 weeks at worknot looking forward to it, the guy across the hall claims nothing is the same regarding toolbars, etc
8/15/2007 11:24:35 AM
8/15/2007 11:24:47 AM
8/15/2007 11:26:32 AM
8/15/2007 11:45:40 AM
^^^^ In this case the change is mostly a good thing. Barring excessive stubbornness, the new interface only takes a short time to get used to and is much faster. I really don't understand and can not sympathize with people who freak out when they have to learn a new interface or program. As long as the software isn't being installed on machines that are too old to smoothly run office 2007, your experience should be vastly improved once you get used to the new interface.[Edited on August 15, 2007 at 11:52 AM. You don't have to be a "multi-billion dollar hedge fund" company to have 500k+ records.
8/15/2007 1:15:08 PM
In this case, it is.There are tons of other efficient, and more workflow oriented mechanisms, IMO.
8/15/2007 1:15:55 PM
blah blah blah.
8/15/2007 1:28:46 PM
Noen, you have never worked real enterprise. So, basically, stop joking around.
