Started two weeks ago: upon a high RPM, I get short sputtering loss of power. I then floor it, engine gears down, and I take off fine. Particularly bad fits occur going uphill. Thought at first that it was a transmission problem. Engine light came on two days ago.Went to autozone, their computer reader told me it was a cylinder 3 misfire. If that is correct, I cannot express my relief with mere words. The question: do the symptoms match?

yeah, the syptoms match but i don't know why you're relieved. a misfire can be caused by anything from something simple like a bad plug/plug wire, carbon build up etc., or something major like a blown head gasket, cracked head, something broken in the valvetrain, etc.[Edited on August 13, 2007 at 6:46 PM. have it diagnosed at a mechanic, as bigblueram said it could be something simple or a major fix

could also be electrical which is yet another headache.

im having a similar issue with my '99 firebird. went to my cousin (who is a mechanic) and he said with these cars, the plugs are supposed to be replaced at 100k miles, but most the time they will go before that. Also they have a history of the plug wires going bad before the plug even goes bad. sounds like a similar situation

Taking it in this morning. Will know tonight. I watched it roll over to 100k on the way home from work yesterday.
