I am setting up a hosting account for my website using godaddy and it asked if I prefer linux or windows server. I am going to use dreamweaver to edit my sight so let me know what you think I should choose here. It is set on linux so I am assuming that is for a reason.

linux supports scp out of the box, windows does not. if you don't have rdp/ssh access, I would choose linux.

Linux.ftmfwSeriously, it's more stable and it's a lot more versatile. Go with Linux.

I third linux

Does the Windows server support .NET?Does the Linux server support Java?If answer to 1 is yes, and 2 is no, then I'd go with 1.

dumbass, he is using DREAMWEAVER here. It's absolutely obvious he wont be using .NET or Java. Jesus christ, go back where you came from.

Is that Noen getting pwned yet once again?

^^^ you mean migrating bunch of generated html files? if you are migrating later, it is likely that nothing short of images and css will be salvageable. ^^ you still have to know how to program ^ no.anyway, i vote linux.[Edited on August 13, 2007 at 10:11 AM. Reason : ^]

I can, but I won't. I'd rather spend my time pushing out some more PHP code on my stable linux-powered website.
8/13/2007 11:47:53 AM
So wait.PHP doesn't work with Windows servers? What does PHP have to do with Dreamweaver, or to be more precise, how do we know what the requirements are in his case?PS: Cheers for considering PHP a framework.
8/13/2007 11:52:48 AM
If you want to run PHP on Windows (and I'm sure you'd pick IIS too), be my guest. What does .NET or Java have to do with Dreamweaver? About the same as PHP. Are you saying that PHP isn't a good language to run a website on? You're an idiot. Ever heard of facebook? Microsoft IIS has gained market share, and I can't say anything bad about it because honestly I've never used it much, but I can say that Apache is an excellent web server and that it is happy at home on linux. http://news.netcraft.com/archives/web_server_survey.htmlAnyway, I'm done feeding the troll. Choose whatever OS you want Hondo. This thread has produced less useful replies than you can count on one hand, so if you really care you might want to look for help elsewhere. (btw, there should be a hotlink to that sentence for tww.)[Edited on August 13, 2007 at 12:31 PM. Reason : wrong pic]

Does the OS really matter in this case? What's the difference if you upload your files to a linux server running Apache or if you are uploading them to a Windows server running Apache?
8/13/2007 12:38:37 PM
^ I doubt that GoDaddy is going to put Apache on Windows, because there wouldn't be much point in offering Windows if that were the case.

Point remains that everything depends on the site/application...but for future learning purposes, I'd get preferably something that supports Java, or at least .NET.That's my personal opinion, and no, I don't consider PHP a framework. Facebook doesn't use PHP as THE framework.
8/13/2007 1:39:54 PM
Java is not a framework. There are Java frameworks, yes, but there are also PHP frameworks. Anyway, it's clear that this guy doesn't know how to program, so a framework doesn't do jack for him. So:

I am using Linux I decided thanks for the information. You may now return to your framework discussion.

Ahahaha.gg Hondo.

Feel free to stop wasting your own time at any point. You are the one who keeps bringing the thread up.
